Freelance SAP MDG-M Consultant (Focus on ABAP RAP & OData Integration)

Role Overview:

We are seeking a freelance SAP Master Data Governance – Material (MDG-M) Consultant/Developer with strong experience in ABAP development (RAP) and OData services. The resource will support an ongoing MDG-M integration project involving multiple external engineering systems. This is a project-based engagement (remote or on-site by arrangement) starting ASAP and continuing until the end of the year with an estimated workload of ~2 days per week.

Scope of Work:

The consultant will:

• Design, develop, and enhance OData-based services within the SAP MDG-M landscape.
• Build and extend integration interfaces using ABAP RESTful Application Programming (RAP) Model.
• Implement and consume REST APIs to enable reliable communication between SAP MDG-M and external systems such as VAULT, Open PDM, and other engineering sources.
• Analyze, process, and harmonize material master data from multiple external systems.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and IT teams to ensure robust, scalable, and compliant master data integration.
• Provide support during testing phases, perform issue analysis, and drive optimizations within the MDG-M environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• OData & Integration Development
• Create and enhance OData services acting as middleware between SAP MDG-M and external systems.
• Extend and optimize services using the ABAP RAP framework.
• MDG-M Expertise
• Apply deep knowledge of SAP MDG-M data models, processes, and governance requirements.
• Support data harmonization and quality checks to ensure consistent material master data.
• API Implementation
• Develop and consume RESTful APIs for system integration as required.
• Ensure secure, structured, and performant API flows.
• Testing & Support
• Participate in test planning and execution.
• Diagnose issues, propose fixes, and assist with deployment activities.
• Stakeholder Collaboration
• Engage with business users and IT teams to interpret requirements and deliver technical solutions.

Required Skills & Experience:

• SAP MDG-M
• Proven hands-on experience in SAP Master Data Governance – Material (MDG-M).
• Strong understanding of MDG-M data structures, governance, and integration patterns.
• ABAP & RAP
• Solid ABAP development background.
• Demonstrated experience with the ABAP RESTful Application Programming (RAP) Model.
• OData Services
• Extensive experience designing, developing, and extending OData services.
• REST API
• Strong grasp of REST API concepts and practical implementation.
• System Integration
• Experience integrating SAP with external systems/middleware.
• Background in engineering or PDM systems is a plus (e.g., VAULT, Open PDM).
