Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior AS/400 System Administrator in IBM iSeries (Power 9, Power 10, & Power 11) to lead, oversee and optimize our IBM i environment. The Senior AS/400 System Administrator will be responsible for the administration, maintenance, and performance tuning of IBM i systems, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency. Additionally, they will lead a team of at least four developers, providing technical guidance and support for system enhancements and troubleshooting. This role is highly visible in the organization and involves frequent interactions with leaders across multiple business units, Infrastructure, PMO and Operations teams. It also requires extensive interfacing with integration consumers. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about technology, great customer & product experience, active prioritization of work and people development. Key Responsibilities:

  • IBM i System Administration: Maintain and optimize IBM i environments running on Power 9 and Power 10 servers
  • Performance Tuning & Optimization: Analyze and enhance system performance, workload distribution, and resource utilization
  • Security & Compliance: Implement best practices for security, user access management, and compliance with industry standards
  • Backup & Disaster Recovery: Manage backup strategies, high availability (HA), and disaster recovery solutions (e.g., BRMS, MIMIX)
  • Patch Management & Upgrades: Apply IBM PTFs (Program Temporary Fixes) and oversee OS version upgrades
  • Scripting & Automation: Develop automation scripts using CL, SQL, RPG, or Python to improve system efficiency
  • Storage & Networking Management: Work with IBM SAN storage, VIOS, and network configurations
  • Leadership & Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of four developers, providing guidance on system development and best practices
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with infrastructure, application development, and business teams to align system capabilities with business needs
  • Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Proactively monitor system health, diagnose issues, and implement solutions to minimize downtime
  • Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years' experience working within technical or enterprise IT environments
  • 5+ years of hands-on IBM i (AS/400, iSeries) system administration experience
  • 3+ years' experience supporting and administering IBM Power 9, Power 10 and/or Power 11 platforms
  • 3+ years' demonstrated experience in IBM i security, performance tuning, and high availability/disaster recover (HA/DR) solutions
  • 3+ years' experience working with Websphere and programming languages such as RPG or Cobol
  • 3+ years' practical experience with IBM storage, networking architectures, and virtualization technologies
  • 3+ years of leadership experience, directing or mentoring teams of developers or engineers
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • IBM Certified System Administrator – IBM i
  • IBM Power Systems Certifications (Power 9/10)
  • ITIL Certification for structured IT service management
  • Experience with automation tools for system administration
     
  • Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (High School Diploma and 4 years relevant experience)
  • Pay Range

    The typical pay range for this role is:

    $106,605.00 - $284,280.00


    This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
