As a Senior Asset Integration Engineer, you’ll sit at the intersection of projects, engineering, maintenance and operations, ensuring new and upgraded rail assets are delivered maintenance-ready, compliant and fit for long-term service.

You’ll play an important role across state and third-party infrastructure projects, helping “switch on” major programs such as Big Build initiatives and the Sunshine Superhub Development, while strengthening asset integration governance, risk management and change control across the network. This is a high-impact role for an experienced rail professional who wants to lead through influence, shape system outcomes, and leave a lasting legacy on Victoria’s rail network.

About the role  

Reporting to the Manager – Asset Integration, this senior engineering role acts as V/Line’s primary Infrastructure Maintenance Interface for infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with project teams, Asset Management, regional maintenance leaders and engineering interfaces to embed maintenance and asset assurance requirements across the full project lifecycle.

You’ll provide technical leadership across Asset Integration disciplines including Track, Civil & Structures, Facilities, Signalling and OCS, with the opportunity to lead and develop a multidisciplinary team as the function and program matures.

You will also contribute to the ongoing development of asset integration frameworks, governance practice and continuous improvement initiatives, supporting V/Line’s broader transformation initiatives.

Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to:  

  • Opportunity to lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of Asset Integration Specialists
  • Embed maintenance and asset integration requirements into all state and third-party projects
  • Provide assurance that assets are safely, compliantly and efficiently transitioned into revenue service
  • Provide guidance on complex and cross-discipline asset integration and non-technical maintenance queries
  • Support the continuous improvement of asset integration practices, processes and procedures
  • Participate in and support risk assessments, Safety in Design workshops and work readiness activities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with engineering and maintenance SME input across Asset Management to ensure project lifecycle requirements are met and integrated
  • Oversee residual risk handover and support asset risk owners through acceptance processes
  • Drive a strong quality, safety and continuous improvement culture
  • Engage broadly across V/Line and external stakeholders to ensure project interface alignment and compliance

About you

You’re a highly experienced rail engineer with strong leadership capability and a deep understanding of asset integration, maintenance and project delivery in a complex infrastructure environment. You’re comfortable influencing stakeholders, navigating risk-based organisations and driving improvement across systems and processes.

To be considered for entry into the selection process for this role, applicants must meet the following 'key selection criteria' which forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:

  • Degree-qualified engineer (recognised by Engineers Australia)
  • Strong rail systems experience, with signalling and track expertise highly regarded
  • Extensive experience (10–15+ years) in rail maintenance engineering, construction, commissioning & handover or similar
  • Demonstrated leadership and people management experience
  • Strong background in asset assurance, project management and infrastructure delivery
  • Proven experience working across multidisciplinary and risk-based organisations
