SIU Senior Communications Technician employees install, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot cable, wire, and fiberoptic data network infrastructure. Technicians will use technical and mechanical tools to run, pull, remove, repair, and terminate outside plant and inside plant cabling necessary for IT service delivery. Technicians diagnose and resolve issues, outages, and signal problems that require advanced technical skills and tools. Technicians maintain accurate records and frequently interpret and work from blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and work orders. Communications Technicians work in all types of environments spaces including manholes, tunnels, roof tops, and subterranean areas. Technicians are expected to respond to data network problems 24x7 in a “firs-on-call” status.
