Role Summary

We are hiring a Senior Database Engineer (SQL Server + PostgreSQL) with strong engineering, migration, and operational expertise across Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL. The ideal candidate has production experience supporting mission-critical workloads, deep performance tuning capability, and hands-on experience deploying these databases in AWS PaaS environments.

This role supports both modernization programs (SQL Server → PostgreSQL) and ongoing engineering/operations for cloud-based database platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer, administer, and optimize SQL Server (2012–2019) and PostgreSQL (12–16) environments.
• Implement HA/DR solutions (SQL AlwaysOn, Log Shipping, Aurora/Postgres HA).
• Design and deploy AWS PaaS solutions: RDS SQL Server, RDS PostgreSQL, Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Write and tune T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, indexes, partitioning, and complex queries.
• Perform SQL Server → SQL Server migrations and SQL Server → PostgreSQL migrations using AWS DMS/SCT and native database tools
• Implement monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
• Build automation using Bash, PowerShell, IaC frameworks.
• Conduct health checks, auditing, optimization, and modernization of existing DB estates.
• Partner with application teams, cloud teams, and DevOps to ensure reliability and scalability.
• Create runbooks, SOPs, migration guides, and operational documentation.
• Work on large SQL Server to PostgreSQL migrations
• Convert SQL Server stored procedures, functions, and triggers into PostgreSQL (PL/pgSQL)

Required Skills

• 5+ years engineering experience with SQL Server and PostgreSQL in production.
• Strong SQL, T-SQL, PL/pgSQL, performance tuning expertise across both databases.
• Hands-on experience with AWS RDS SQL Server, RDS PostgreSQL, and Aurora PostgreSQL.
• Migration experience SQL Server → PostgreSQL using DMS/SCT or Ispirer SQLWays.
• Linux/UNIX experience and strong Bash scripting.
• Knowledge of SQL Server internals (wait stats, index strategies, locking).
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL internals (query planner, vacuum/autovacuum, WAL, replication).
• Backup/restore engineering (native backups, RDS snapshots, pgBackRest).
• Strong understanding of networking, IAM, VPC, and cloud security configuration
