Key duties are listed, but not limited to, the below:
Candidate should have experience in design and engineering consultancy on industrial design projects like Metal & mining sector, semiconductor industry, pharmaceutical, chemical, manufacturing, FMCG, capital goods warehouses etc. with the following skill sets:
Manage from the front, Ownership and Accountability
Manage the team of Electrical Engineers, Modelers and CAD Designers for project deliveries.
Provide technical guidance to the Electrical team in conceptual, basic and detail design, development/review of layout, design basis report, design of electrical equipment (generator, transformer, switchgear, HV, MV and LV distribution system, substation etc.) and cable sizing, voltage drop calculation, earthing calculation, lighting calculation, relay setting calculation, cathodic protection technical specification, data sheet, technical bid analysis, quantity and cost estimation, review of vendor drawings and documents, quality plans etc.
Train younger Engineers on technical topics related to electrical power plant engineering design.
Train younger Engineers on standard electrical engineering software tools like ETAP, SKM, CDEGS, etc.
Electrical system modelling including grounding, load flow, short-circuit, and arc-flash analysis Protective relay setting development, calculation, and coordination studies.
Developing scope of work, conceptual design, and execution plans.
Developing equipment specifications, procuring, reviewing vendor drawings and factory acceptance testing electrical equipment.
Preparing engineering cost and man-hour estimates and schedules
Checking/creating electrical deliverables like one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, interconnection drawings, equipment layouts, cable schedules, panel schedules, power, grounding and lighting layouts for constructing/installation of new or modifications of existing power generating facility electrical systems.
Responsible to provide operational leadership and direction to maintain a high quality of technical performance through deliverables and successful overall project delivery.
Provide and seek various approach and means for productivity improvement
Provide technical guidance in design optimization, value engineering, design innovation, automation and digital technologies
Lead checking and review process of design deliverables and ensure high quality standards.
Manage inter-discipline conflicts and technical issues with clients, regularly meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel.
Manage change control / variation process internally and with clients
Devise and guide efficiency improvement methodologies through engineers, designers and modelers
Measure and monitor performance of the team and motivate for increasing productivity
Promote standardization and work flow / sequences across the disciplines.
Assess team competency and skills, identify specific trainings and development required, plan and implement
Ensure career development plan and talent management of the staff
Manage recruitment through HR selecting right candidate on board ensuring pyramid organization structure
Promote / enhance Ownership and Accountability culture
Manage design review effectively ensuring no inter-discipline clash/interference
Drive Customer Feedback in all projects, work on the gaps and ensure Customer Satisfaction
Help BD and Proposal team through providing technical and commercial inputs, identifying technical and commercial risks and providing mitigation in Proposals to win projects, meet clients for demonstrating technical expertise and creating clients’ confidence
Help Project team in identifying technical and commercial risks and providing feasible mitigation
A team player with good communication, analytical and negotiation skills.
Candidate Specification
Work experience which demonstrates progressive design and project management responsibilities. Has experience with design scope development, budget preparation and project execution meeting schedule requirements and maintaining established budgets. This position requires an individual capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments. Must be capable of interpreting and developing solutions to complex problems.
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from accredited program.
Engineering Experience in basic and detail design and engineering experience in developing/review of electrical layout, electrical equipment sizing, cable sizing, voltage drop calculation, short circuit calculation, earthing calculation, lighting calculation, design basis report, technical specification, technical bid analysis, preparation/review of BOQ, cost estimate, vendor drawing and document review including quality plan etc.
Experience in design of EHV/HV, MV and LV distribution system, design of electrical system in hazardous and non-hazardous area as per statutory norms, design of electrical outdoor switchyard and substation, GIS substation etc.
Sound knowledge of IEEE, IEC and local codes and standards
Good knowledge of electrical design software
Proven track record of technical leadership with managerial and administrative capabilities
Good communication and inter-personal skills
Well versed with Indian and International Standards and local statutory norms
Strong commercial understanding in terms of increasing staff productivity and efficiency and managing deliverables and completing projects within budgeted cost
Managed more than 6-10 direct reports and a total team of more than 20 engineers and designers.
Delivered project for the industry / manufacturing sectors in steel, power, semiconductor, chemical, pharmaceutical and industrial plants.
Proactive and quality oriented, with a client-centric outlook, along with a high sense of accountability.
A demonstrable track record of meeting exacting technical standards.
Good commercial awareness and communicator.
