Senior Engineer

Fair Dinkum Builds is seeking a technically strong and people focused Senior Structural Engineer to join our engineering team. Reporting to the National Product & Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in delivering safe, compliant, and efficient structural designs across our shed and steel building projects.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Carry out detailed cold formed steel calculations, including folding behaviour, load paths, member design, and connection detailing for shed and small building structures.
• Prepare engineering documentation, including design reports, structural mark ups, technical notes, and certification packages aligned with AS1170 and related standards.
• Develop digital engineering models using BIM tools to support structural analysis, clash checks, and integration with drafting/modelling teams.
• Review and validate drawings to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance.
• Implement Python based tools or scripts to streamline engineering workflows, automate repetitive calculations, or run scenario modelling.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate engineering activities across assigned projects, ensuring technical tasks are delivered on time and to quality standards.
• Work closely with internal engineers to refine designs, troubleshoot issues, and provide technical guidance across project stages.
• Provide structured coaching and technical development to the junior engineer who reports into this role, including regular one on one sessions.

You’ll Bring
Essential

• Degree qualification in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Demonstrated expertise in cold formed steel design, including folding steel in cold form.
• Experience managing engineering tasks or small projects within a civil/structural environment.
• Working knowledge of BIM technologies.
• Strong understanding of building codes, especially AS1170, and prior experience with shed or house type structural systems.
• Capability and willingness to mentor a junior engineer.

Desirable

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Tekla, and/or Revit.
• Experience using Python for engineering or automation tasks.
