Sr. Engineer, Software – Data Ops (L08)

About the Role:

Sr. Engineer, Software – Data Operations leads the design, development, and automation of T-Mobile’s data and infrastructure platforms that enable analytics and software delivery across the enterprise in a 24x7 highly dynamic operating environment. This role is central to the Data Operations Center of Excellence, driving operational reliability, automation, and compliance for platforms like Snowflake, Databricks, and Azure. The Sr. Engineer provides technical leadership, mentorship, and architectural direction, championing a culture of collaboration, accountability, and technical depth.

What You’ll Do:

• Architect, design, and implement automated, cloud-native platform solutions using modern programming and infrastructure-as-code tools
• Develop reusable platform components, automation frameworks, and blueprints for multi-cloud environments
• Lead orchestration and automation across data platform technologies to improve scalability, security, and performance
• Design, implement, and maintain advanced observability, monitoring, and alerting solutions for platform reliability
• Define platform standards, reference architectures, and best practices in collaboration with enterprise architecture and security partners
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and design leadership
• Document platform architectures, runbooks, and automation frameworks to enable reuse and consistency across teams
• Foster a collaborative, influence-driven team culture with high individual accountability and technical depth

What You’ll Bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 5+ years of combined software engineering, DevOps, or platform engineering experience with a strong focus on automation
• Hands-on experience designing and deploying infrastructure using infrastructure as code in Azure, AWS, or GCP
• Strong experience working with modern platform technologies such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Control-M
• Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to reason across complex platform and system architectures
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence across cross-functional teams

Must Have Skills:

• Expert level experience developing full stack applications, including front-end and back-end components
• Proficiency in front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and frameworks like Angular
• Experience developing back-end services and RESTful web services
• SQL skills, including database schema design and query development
• Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure (preferred), AWS, or GCP
• DevOps experience using infrastructure-as-code tools and practices
• Proficiency with modern programming languages such as Python, NodeJS and Java
• Familiarity with build and test tools such as Maven, JUnit, Webpack
• Ability to ensure solutions scale operationally and are maintainable by others
• Excellent team work and cross-functional collaboration skills

Nice to Have:

• Experience with additional programming languages such as Java or Go
• Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Metric Insights, Qlik Sense)
• Experience with data virtualization tools such as Denodo, analytical tools such as SAS, or on-prem platforms such as Hadoop
• Platform and cloud certifications (Microsoft Azure Administrator, Solutions Architect, Terraform, SnowPro, Databricks Certified Data Engineer, Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator)
