Dugald River mine is one of the world’s top 10 Zinc mine operations, which has been producing zinc concentrate for customers around the world since 2017. 


The mine is committed to a low-carbon future. In April 2023 the Dugald River Solar Farm began operations, supplying a third of the mine’s power, and reducing emissions by 33% and this is just the start of its renewable energy transition. 


Dugald River employs around 750 employees and contractors on a mix of fly-in, fly-out and local residential basis.


Senior Engineer – Mine Planning


Reporting into the MTS Superintendent as the Senior Engineer, you will provide tailored advice and support the business with all budgeting and forecasting activities. You will have the ability to think creatively and critically to deliver innovative solutions while coordinating and communicating effectively with all stakeholders.


This role will be based on an 8/6:4/3 roster, drive in drive out (DIDO) from Cloncurry or Mount Isa or fly in fly out (FIFO) from Townsville or Brisbane.


Qualifications, Competencies & knowledge:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering, essential with supporting operational experience in underground metalliferous mining.

  • Strong technical understanding of Deswik software – CAD, IS, MDM, Deswik Ops an advantage

  • Extensive, in depth understanding of drill and blast and backfill techniques including paste systems.

  • Underground mining processes including drainage, power, water and ventilation.

  • Current C Class Drivers License (Essential)

  • Queensland Explosives Security Clearance (QESC) (Essential) and Site Safety Supervisors Course (Essential).

  • First Aid Certificate (Desirable).

  • Excellent communication and engagement with stakeholders

  • Experience in developing and delivering monthly and quarterly mine plans, with the ability to present and communicate effectively to large, multidisciplinary teams.

    • Key responsibilities will include:

  • Ensure completion of appropriate, accurate and timely mine operating plans, designs, schedules, projects and budgets the site.

  • Champion the technical services processes of the business and supporting all departments in the delivery of the business strategy

  • Maintain a formal mine design process that reflects operational complexity and integrates geotechnical input, including reviews of schedules, outlooks, plans, and designs ensuring alignment with company standards.

  • Lead a team while driving performance, delivering plans aligned with standards, and continuously improving stope design and recovery.

  • Reviewing of underground designs and plans for operations with a continuous improvement mindset.

  • Accountable for ensuring the mine’s short term plans, schedules are delivered in line with business processes and systems
