Overview
A successful FinOps Analyst is analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable working with both financial and technical data. They communicate clearly with diverse teams, translating cloud cost information into actionable insights. They are organized, curious, disciplined in tracking and reporting, and able to manage competing priorities. Strong problem-solving skills, accuracy in analysis, and a focus on continuous improvement are essential to perform effectively in the role.
Key Responsibilities
- Cloud Cost Analysis & Reporting:
Monitor and analyze cloud spending across multiple platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) to identify cost drivers, trends, and anomalies. Prepare detailed reports and dashboards for stakeholders. - Optimization & Efficiency:
Partner with engineering and product teams to recommend and implement cost-optimization strategies such as rightsizing, scheduling, reserved instances, savings plans, and storage optimization. - Budgeting & Forecasting:
Support cloud budget development, forecasting, and variance analysis. Provide insights into spending efficiency and assist in developing financial models for future growth. - Governance Management:
Contribute to the development of FinOps frameworks and standards to ensure transparency, accountability and efficiency across cloud environments. - Collaboration & Enablement:
Work cross-functionally with Finance, Procurement, and Cloud Operations teams to promote FinOps best practices, enabling teams to make data-driven cost decisions. - Tooling & Automation:
Leverage native and third-party tools to automate cost tracking, alerting, and reporting.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in cloud cost management, FinOps or financial analysis.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong Excel and data visualization skills (Power BI, Tableau, or Grafana).
- Good understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cost management tools.
- Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Python, SQL) is a plus.
- Certifications (Preferred): FinOps Certified Practitioner, AWS Cloud Practitioner, or similar.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical mindset, communication, stakeholder management, and business acumen.
