Senior / Lead Controls Engineer – Siemens TIA Portal
Experience Required
- 8+ years of relevant experience in industrial automation and control systems
Required Skill Set
Core Technical Skills
- Siemens TIA Portal:
- Proficient in TIA Portal V17 and above, with strong hands-on experience in development, diagnostics, testing, and commissioning.
- WinCC SCADA:
- Solid experience in WinCC SCADA for industrial process control, visualization, and monitoring.
- Advanced HMI Programming:
- Expertise in HMI screen design, scripting, dynamic content handling, and user-defined controls.
- PLC Programming (STL – Expert Level):
- Ability to design and develop PLC programs from scratch using Statement List (STL).
- Communication Protocols:
- Strong working knowledge of Profinet, Profibus, and AS-i communication standards.
- Advanced PLC Techniques:
- Expert-level experience with pointers and indirect addressing for flexible and optimized logic implementation.
- Diagnostic & Versioning Tools:
- Hands-on experience with Siemens Proneta for network diagnostics, version control, and backup management.
- Safety PLC Programming:
- Experience in Siemens Safety PLC programming, validation, testing, and fault diagnostics.
Scripting & Integration (Preferred)
- Proficiency in XML for structured data handling and system integration.
- Experience with VB scripting for extending HMI and SCADA functionality.
International Exposure (Preferred)
- Experience working on international projects, with familiarity in global engineering standards and multicultural team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of Low-Level Control (LLC) software for large-scale automation systems using Siemens TIA Portal.
- Own the complete LLC software lifecycle, from concept and design through testing, commissioning, and service handover.
- Coordinate across disciplines to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Define and implement validation strategies, and lead integration testing with SCADA, Electrical & Mechanical (EM), and Safety Systems.
- Take full ownership of planning, effort estimation, scheduling, and on-time delivery of the LLC workstream.
- Develop and apply advanced diagnostic, simulation, and emulation tools to improve testing and commissioning efficiency.
- Support project leadership with risk mitigation strategies and system-level control solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement of products, processes, tools, and platform architecture.
- Represent the Controls/LLC discipline during customer meetings, design reviews, and technical audits.
- Establish and promote best practices in software delivery, documentation, and team development.
Technical Responsibilities
- Independently prepare functional specifications and detailed design documents for large and complex projects based on customer requirements, order files, and defined controls architecture.
- Select optimal technical solutions using standardized modules and reusable library blocks.
- Apply and enforce engineering standards, development procedures, and quality guidelines.
- Design, configure, program, test, and document complex control systems and subsystems.
- Develop and enhance standard control libraries and reusable modules.
- Perform functional analysis and translate user requirements into robust and reliable control designs.
- Review and align mechanical layouts for controls and functional compliance.
- Independently manage site commissioning activities, coordinating with site supervisors and project leaders.
- Ensure complete and high-quality Service Take Over (STO) documentation.
- Provide expert technical guidance to Project Leaders, Engineering Managers, and Project Managers.
- Report technical progress, deviations, and risk mitigation plans to relevant stakeholders.
- Coordinate and mentor Controls Engineers, ensuring clear goals and deliverables.
- Maintain cost awareness and manage the allocated budget for the LLC scope.
- Demonstrate strong planning, ownership, accountability, and project discipline.
- Support and manage multi-disciplinary integration activities across projects.
