Senior Manager, Portfolio Optimization – Scotiabank
Overview
The Senior Manager, Portfolio Optimization contributes to increasing the performance and profitability of the issuing portfolio (credit & debit) and the overall success of the Issuing & Payment Networks Area within Retail Payments Department in International Banking. The role ensures specific individual goals, plans, and initiatives are executed in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Accountabilities
- Champions a customer‑focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Leads the definition and implementation of strategies focused on increasing the payments portfolio performance and profitability, including MCC profitability, product suitability, and cost reduction.
- Collaborates with IB Fraud, IB Operations, Networks, and country teams to implement strategies, tools, and rules that improve IB Retail Payments authorization rates and maximize payment volumes while maintaining risk management.
- Works closely with the Payment Networks team to minimize network penalties (e.g., Visa’s minimum approval rate mandate).
- Provides guidance and oversight to the Manager, Portfolio Optimization on the development and maintenance of payments‑related dashboards and reports from network and IB data, consolidating extraction from multiple sources.
- Uses risk appetite and risk culture to inform day‑to‑day decisions and activities.
- Maintains effective operations in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, Code of Conduct, and Global Sales Principles, ensuring adequate operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions, and conduct risk controls.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in payments (credit and debit cards) with a strong understanding of products, benefits, pricing, P/L drivers, and the payments ecosystem.
- Demonstrated multitasking abilities in a team‑based environment.
- Excellent analytical, presentation, writing, and negotiation skills.
- Business Intelligence experience and working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of Power BI and capacity to manage simple databases in SQL.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is an essential asset.
