We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design and development of Special Purpose Machines (SPM), automated systems, and conveyor solutions. The ideal candidate will play a key role in translating complex manufacturing requirements into robust mechanical designs, supporting end-to-end automation projects from concept through commissioning. This role demands strong technical expertise, hands-on design experience, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective automation solutions.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design activities for Special Purpose Machines (SPM), automation systems, and conveyor-based material handling solutions.
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D models, including assemblies, sub-assemblies, and part drawings, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and safety norms.
- Own the complete mechanical design lifecycle—from concept design, feasibility studies, and calculations to detailing, BOM creation, and design validation.
- Design and optimize conveyor systems such as belt conveyors, roller conveyors, chain conveyors, pallet systems, and custom transfer mechanisms.
- Collaborate closely with automation, electrical, controls, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless system integration and functionality.
- Conduct design reviews, tolerance stack-ups, strength calculations, and FMEA to ensure performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
- Support procurement and production teams by providing technical clarifications, vendor coordination, and design modifications when required.
- Oversee prototype builds, machine assembly, testing, and on-site commissioning support to ensure design intent is met.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on standardization, cost reduction, cycle-time optimization, and design efficiency.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to strengthen team capability and design quality.
Required Skills & Expertise
- Strong hands-on experience in SPM design, industrial automation, and conveyor systems.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical components such as linear guides, ball screws, bearings, gearboxes, motors, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
- Proficiency in CAD tools such as SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD, or equivalent.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, GD&T, material selection, and design for assembly (DFA) and manufacturing (DFM).
- Experience working on automation projects in industries such as automotive, manufacturing, packaging, FMCG, or heavy engineering.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- 8–13 years of relevant experience in mechanical design for SPM, automation, and conveyor-based systems.
