Job Description:Lead the development and deployment of strategic mechanical engineering initiatives in alignment with the Engineering and Maintenance Strategy. Act as the Statutory Mechanical Engineer for the site, ensuring compliance with SHMS obligations, Recognised Standards, and legislation. Represent the mechanical discipline in strategic planning sessions, including Life of Mine planning, department BARA reviews, and risk assessments. Approve mechanical inputs into LOM equipment strategies, asset capability assessments, and risk-based maintenance plans. Provide leadership and oversight for mechanical contributions to capital planning and long-term asset forecasts. Approve mechanical engineering specifications and ensure mechanical designs meet Dawson and legislative requirements. Lead mechanical FMECA reviews and oversee the development and lifecycle management of mechanical equipment strategies. Govern the implementation of mechanical maintenance procedures, training, and component rebuild standards. Provide statutory oversight for commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring design, safety, and operational readiness criteria are met. Support maintenance execution teams through oversight of strategy adherence and defect management processes. Provide mechanical technical governance for major shutdown scopes. Ensure statutory inspection and compliance obligations are incorporated into shutdown planning and execution. Provide technical review and governance of contracts involving mechanical scope. Lead the mechanical engineering team’s input into performance reporting, RCA reviews, and mechanical KPI tracking. Oversee mechanical decommissioning processes and validate the development of care and maintenance strategies. Qualifications:Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline (i.e. Master of Engineering Management). Obtained or working toward obtaining the relevant Practicing Certificate for Mechanical Engineering Manager (MEM). Supervisor & Risk Facilitator competencies (S1, 2, 3 & G2, G3). RPEQ accreditation in Mechanical Engineering is desirable. iCam Facilitator is desirable. Experience with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) methodology. Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, OEM knowledge (CAT & Komatsu) and heavy machinery used in mining operations. Demonstrated capability in a progressive leadership role. Demonstrated ability in project management for a mine site (coal preferred), including leading projects whilst working independently. Previous experience with SAP or a similar ERP will be desirable. Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identify and address mechanical challenges. Adherence to safety regulations and a commitment to creating a safe working environment for all team members.
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer: MEM to join the maintenance leadership team at Dawson Mine on a full-time, permanent basis with Anglo American. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible Maintenance & Engineering Management (MEM) statutory responsibilities for the open-cut coal mine. You will also lead the development and optimisation of maintenance strategies, specifications, and engineering standards to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective equipment performance across the site.
