Job Description

Overview

Join a top-tier engineering and manufacturing firm in Perth, delivering high-impact projects across the metallurgical sector. Strong track record in designing bulk materials handling systems, applying first principles to deliver reliable solutions across conveyors, feeders and gates. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive innovation across manufacturing, automation, and materials handling solutions.

  • Bulk handling and automated solutions for the mining sector; design and delivery focus.

About the role

The ideal candidate will lead the mechanical design of new products, provide technical oversight, validate design documentation, and drive standardisation and optimisation across product lines. The role requires extensive experience in bulk materials handling design, applying core engineering principles to deliver reliable solutions across conveyors, feeders, and gates. To be successful, you must be skilled in machine design, detailed mechanical component selection, and able to review and understand existing drawings and calculations.

  • Manage technical design processes for conveyors, feeders, and gates, guiding teams through first principles engineering to achieve robust bulk materials handling outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and product optimisation, contributing to the development of future design standards.
  • Provide technical support to stakeholders—including product verticals, procurement, and service teams—to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Develop and refine mechanical designs using Inventor, AutoCAD, and other engineering tools.
  • Oversaw engineering drawings, conducted reviews, and resolved technical issues while liaising with onsite planners and client engineers.
  • Provided engineering support for bulk materials handling systems, including conveyors and pulleys, ensuring compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers to meet performance targets and produce detailed calculations and 3D models.
  • Participate in design reviews and risk assessments to enhance engineering outcomes.
  • Validate designs against industry standards and safety regulations to ensure technical integrity.
  • Define and review design criteria based on client specifications, contributing to robust project design foundations.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor or master’s in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum 10+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated success in designing bulk materials handling equipment, grounded in core engineering principles and practical application across conveyors, feeders, and gates
  • Able to adapt priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously in dynamic environments
  • Proven experience in machine design with a focus on cost-effective manufacturing
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
