Job Description

An established OEM is expanding its engineering capability and is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a specialist product team focused on bulk materials handling equipment. This role suits an engineer who enjoys owning designs end-to-end, solving complex mechanical problems, and contributing to the evolution of feeder and conveyor technology.

You’ll manage your own portfolio of projects, working closely with designers, workshops, suppliers and clients, with the opportunity to influence both standard and bespoke design solutions.

The Role

  • Lead mechanical design activities across bulk materials handling equipment including feeders, hoppers, conveyors and transfer chutes
  • Review and interpret drawings, providing clear technical direction and ensuring constructability
  • Apply first-principles engineering to size and select key components such as shafts, drives, chains, sprockets and take-up systems
  • Develop concepts where standard solutions are not suitable
  • Use CAD tools (AutoCAD / Inventor) for concept and detailed design, with FEA exposure advantageous
  • Troubleshoot technical issues, conduct root cause analysis and implement practical solutions
  • Manage engineering scope, quality and delivery across active projects
  • Prepare and resolve technical queries with clients and suppliers
  • Support sales and estimating teams with product selection and conceptual design input
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant codes, standards and safety requirements

About You

  • Degree-qualified Mechanical Engineer
  • 10-15 years’ experience in mechanical or machine design within mining or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong background in bulk materials handling equipment, particularly conveyor- or feeder-based systems
  • Proven experience sizing mechanical components such as shafts, drives and take-up assemblies
  • Confident working across engineering, workshops, vendors and client interfaces
  • Comfortable managing engineering activities from concept through to delivery
  • Experience with 3D modelling tools (Inventor, AutoCAD); FEA exposure desirable
  • Bulk materials handling training (e.g. TUNRA or equivalent) highly regarded
  • Willingness to undertake occasional local, domestic or international travel

What’s in it for you?

  • Long-established, stable OEM with a healthy forward workload
  • Genuine technical ownership and influence over product outcomes
  • Supportive, approachable leadership and a collaborative engineering team
  • Flexible working environment that supports work-life balance
  • Additional leave benefits beyond standard entitlements
  • Employee wellbeing support and corporate partner discounts
