Job Description

Senior Mechanical & Optomechanics Engineer

Location: Hyderabad, India (On-site | Lab + Field Testing)

Division: QuLase - Optics and Lasers Technology Division

Company: QuBeats (Nostradamus Technologies Private Limited)

Type: Full-Time | On-site R&D Role

QuBeats is on a mission to build field-deployable, advanced quantum sensors and

advanced Electro-Optical / Infrared (EO/IR) and Laser systems that deliver decisive

strategic advantage on the battlefield. From lab-grade quantum precision sensors to high

energy laser systems, we engineer prototypes into rugged, mission-ready systems

designed to perform reliably in extreme environments - space, in the air, under water and

on land - and integrate seamlessly with real platforms under real operational constraints.

This is deep-tech engineering at the limits of physics, built for deployment, not

demonstrations.

If you are driven to translate deep science into real-world impact, thrive at the

intersection of quantum physics, laser systems engineering, and defense technology,

and want to see your work deployed where performance truly matters, QuBeats is where

you build it.

Our founding team brings together alumni of IIT Kharagpur, TIFR, UC Berkeley, Max Planck

Institute, Joint Quantum Institute (UMD), MIT, Harvard, University of Bonn, and Virje

University, combining world-class research depth with execution focus. Backed by $15M

from leading investors and government grants, QuBeats is scaling fast to deliver

sovereign, battlefield-ready quantum capabilities.

Role Overview

We're looking for exceptional and top-tier talent with deep expertise in Mechanical &

Optomechanics Engineering who loves building precision hardware that actually

moves, vibrates, and survives real-world use. You will own the mechanical and

optomechanical design that enables compact optical layouts, adaptive beam control,

and accurate pointing/tracking on portable and vehicular platforms.

This role sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, precision

optomechanics, and system integration. You'll work closely with optics, laser,

firmware, and controls engineers to turn fragile optical concepts into rugged,

deployable systems.

What You'll Work On

Mechanical Architecture for Optical Systems

• Design compact, foldable, and modular mechanical architectures to house

complex optical paths.

• Enable integration into portable, vehicular, or containerized chassis with tight

SWaP constraints.

• Balance sti_ness, mass, accessibility, and alignment tolerance from day one.

Optomechanical Design & CAD

• Design optomechanical mounts, kinematic stages, mirror mounts, lens

tubes, and enclosures.

• Use CAD tools (SolidWorks or equivalent) for design, simulation, and

documentation.

• Define alignment strategies, adjustability, and serviceability for fast field

maintenance.

Beam Shaping & Adaptive Optics Integration

• Support mechanical integration of beam-shaping optics (telescopes, aspheric

lenses, relay optics).

• Integrate adaptive optics hardware—tip-tilt mirrors, fast steering mirrors,

deformable optics.

• Work with controls and firmware teams to enable closed-loop beam

stabilization.

Ruggedization & Structural Integrity

• Ensure optical alignment stability under acceleration, vibration, and shock.

• Design for thermal stability and minimal drift across operating conditions.

• Support vibration tests, transport tests, and field trials—and iterate fast when

things move.

Dynamic Beam Steering & Tracking

• Develop mechanical subsystems for dynamic beam steering and tracking

moving targets.

• Integrate gimbals, steering stages, encoders, and feedback sensors.

• Translate pointing and tracking requirements into mechanical performance

specs.

What We're Looking For

Required

• Masters/ PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Optomechanics, Photonics, Lasers,

Applied Optics, or Applied Physics.

• 5-8 years of strong hands-on experience with precision mechanical and

optomechanical design.

• Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD tools.

• Solid understanding of vibration, stiPness, tolerances, and thermal ePects.

• Comfortable building, assembling, aligning, testing, and re-working hardware.

Nice to Have

• Experience with mobile, vehicular, aerospace, or field-deployed systems.

• Exposure to optical systems, lasers, or adaptive optics hardware.

• Familiarity with environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal cycling).

• Experience collaborating closely with optics, electronics, and firmware teams.

What We Offer

1. High ownership: you design it, build it, test it, and see it deployed.

2. Fast iteration: minimal bureaucracy, rapid CAD-to-hardware cycles.

3. Work on real, high-impact hardware, not just drawings.

4. Small, highly technical team where mechanical design directly a_ects system

performance.

5. Clear growth path to Lead Mechanical / System Architect roles.
