Senior Site Reliability Engineer Canonical

Location: Globally remote role. Join Canonical , a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, and contribute to the world‑wide Ubuntu platform.

Role overview

Lead next‑gen operations at scale using pure Python infra‑as‑code. You will architect and run OpenStack, Kubernetes, and software‑defined storage, managing private cloud, Kubernetes, and application clusters across physical and public cloud estates. Your focus will be automation as a software‑engineering problem, employing a scientific approach driven by metrics and code.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain CloudOps infrastructure from bare metal to containers.
• Operate and optimize private cloud, Kubernetes, and application clusters for global customers.
• Apply devsecops practices across all layers from metal to applications.
• Drive automation, upgrades, and continuous improvement of open‑source infrastructure stack.
• Collaborate with engineering teams and support high‑pressure, mission‑critical services.

What we are looking for in you

  • Degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science
  • Experience with Linux, Linux networking and storage
  • Python software development expertise
  • Operational experience with cloud infrastructure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events (up to two weeks)

Nice‑to‑have skills

  • Experience with OpenStack or Kubernetes deployment or operations
  • Familiarity with public or private cloud management
