Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Platform)

Coinbase is seeking Senior Backend Engineers to join our Platform Product Group, which aims to build a trusted, scalable, and compliant platform to maximize velocity, efficiency, and quality. These engineers will work on foundational systems used by multiple Coinbase products, ensuring a consistent and high-quality user experience. Current openings are for our Finhub and Identity teams.

As part of Coinbase, you will develop next-generation crypto-forward products, solving complex technical challenges at web-scale and blockchain technology constraints. You will contribute to systems that make cryptocurrency accessible globally, operating real-time, high-frequency, low-latency applications within a secure, cloud-based infrastructure.

Responsibilities include:

• Building new services with Golang to address critical product and business needs.
• Designing scalable systems using modern cloud technologies and best practices.
• Planning long-term strategies for maintaining and scaling backend systems and teams.
• Collaborating with engineers, designers, product managers, and leadership to develop quarterly roadmaps.
• Writing high-quality, well-tested code to meet customer needs.

Ideal candidates will have:

• At least 5 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services with service-oriented architecture.
• A passion for building an open financial system that unites the world.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience with rapid company growth (startup to mid-size).
• Experience with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Blockchain technology experience (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.).
• Experience decomposing monoliths into microservices.
• Proficiency with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Experience building financial, high-reliability, or security systems.
• Crypto-forward experience, including onchain activities, ENS, dApps, or blockchain services.
