Job Description

I am working with an Australian technology company operating at the intersection of hardware automation, and data is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Ruby on Rails) to join their growing engineering team.

This business builds software platforms that power real-world operations - from planning and automation through to data capture, processing and integration into enterprise systems.

Their technology is used across industries like infrastructure, mining, energy, government and environmental monitoring. You'll be working on production systems that interact with real hardware in the field, not just dashboards and apps.

What You'll Be Working On

  • Designing and building backend systems in Ruby on Rails that support large-scale, automated operations
  • Developing APIs and services that manage workflows, data ingestion and integrations
  • Working with geospatial, sensor and operational data at scale
  • Collaborating with product, hardware and operations teams to ship end-to-end solutions
  • Improving system performance, reliability and scalability as the platform grows
  • Influencing technical direction and engineering best practices

Requirements:

  • Strong commercial experience as a Senior Software Engineer
  • Deep hands-on experience with Ruby on Rails in production environments
  • Experience building and maintaining APIs, background jobs and data-heavy systems
  • Solid understanding of system design, scalability and maintainability
  • Comfortable working in a remote, autonomous team environment
  • Bonus points for experience with:
    • Cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
    • Event-driven systems or integrations
    • Geospatial, IoT, robotics or hardware-adjacent software
