Role Summary

The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for end-to-end payroll processing for the UK and Ireland region, ensuring complete accuracy, statutory compliance, timely execution, and seamless employee experience. The role requires deep expertise in UK&I payroll legislation, statutory reporting, reconciliations, year-end activities, and integration with HRIS/finance systems.
This position also acts as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) providing guidance to payroll teams, auditors, stakeholders, and supporting process transitions or system enhancements.

Your Responsibilities

1. End-to-End Payroll Processing

  • Independently manage monthly/weekly payroll cycles for UK and Ireland.
  • Process new hires, terminations, LOAs, tax code changes, contractual changes, and one-time payments.
  • Validate gross-to-net calculations, statutory deductions, arrears, adjustments, and corrections.
  • Execute off-cycle payroll runs, bonus payouts, and retroactive adjustments.

2. Statutory Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure payroll compliance under HMRC and Revenue Commissioners regulations.
  • Manage statutory payments and reporting including:
    • PAYE, NIC, Student Loans, Court Orders
    • SSP, SMP, SPP, ShPP
    • P45, P46, P11D, P60
    • RTI submissions (FPS/EPS)
    • CSO/Revenue returns for Ireland
  • Handle audits, HMRC queries, and compliance reviews.

3. Payroll Reconciliation & Controls

  • Perform reconciliation of payroll registers, GL files, costing reports, and bank files.
  • Review tax liabilities, employer contributions, pension deductions, and year-end balances.
  • Maintain SOX control documentation, process checklists, and compliance evidence.

4. Stakeholder & Employee Support

  • Act as the SME for HRBPs, Finance, Rewards, and Business Leaders.
  • Support employee payroll queries with accurate and timely resolution.
  • Collaborate with HR, Time & Attendance, and Benefits teams for dependency data.

5. Systems, Integrations & Reporting

  • Work with payroll platforms such as SAP, ADP, Workday, SD Worx, or similar.
  • Validate HRIS-to-payroll integrations and troubleshoot data interface issues.
  • Prepare periodic payroll analytics, dashboards, and statutory reports.
  • Support system upgrades, testing, and implementation of payroll process improvements.

6. Year-End Activities

  • Oversee P11D, P60, tax reconciliations, bonuses, and year-end statutory filings.
  • Review benefit-in-kind (BIK), equity, and taxable benefits data.
