What makes this role exciting

We are seeking an expert Senior Team Lead to guide our Platform Database (DBA) team. This is a critical, hands-on leadership role responsible for the architecture, implementation, performance optimisation, and maintenance of CloudPay's entire database estate.

You will be a technical expert and a mentor, guiding a team of engineers in managing our shared structured and unstructured data. Your focus will be on ensuring the highest standards of data integrity, security, availability, and scalability that our global platform demands.

Main responsibilities:

• Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database architectures.

• Lead, mentor, and coach a team of database engineers, supporting their technical and career development.

• Pro-actively monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimisations.

• Oversee all database management activities, including installation, configuration, and upgrades.

• Develop and execute comprehensive backup and recovery strategies.

• Implement and enforce database security measures to safeguard sensitive data.

• Collaborate closely with the platform, development, and other stakeholder teams.

• Contribute to data modelling, data quality checks, and data governance policies.

Experience needed for this role:

• A proven track record of success in database administration, ideally in a platform engineering environment.

• Experience in leading and mentoring a team of technical professionals.

• Strong expertise in a variety of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB).

• Experience with cloud-based database services (e.g., AWS RDS).

• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

• Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and SQL.

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Beneficial: Certifications in relevant database technologies or experience with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
