Senior Technical Team Lead, Data Management

The Senior Technical Team Lead – Data Management is a senior technical leader and people manager responsible for building, managing, and scaling an India-based Data Management delivery team while ensuring architectural excellence across client engagements.

This role reports directly to the Practice Director, Data Management and serves as a key leadership position within the global practice. The successful candidate will balance people management responsibilities (hiring, coaching, performance management, and team development) with hands-on architectural leadership across modern cloud data platforms, with a strong with a strong emphasis on Snowflake, dbt, Databricks, and enterprise data management best practices.

The role is accountable for delivery quality and technical standards for the assigned client engagement and partners closely with US-based architects, project managers, and client stakeholders to design and deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing data solutions. Within a matrixed organization, this role retains ownership of solution integrity, architectural alignment, and the professional growth and data management guidance of assigned team members.

Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Team Management

• Directly manage and grow a team of data engineers and consultants based in India.
• Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and career development for team members.
• Establish clear expectations, development plans, and feedback mechanisms to support individual and team growth.
• Foster a high-performance, inclusive culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Partner with the Practice Director on workforce planning, capacity management, and succession planning.

Technical & Architectural Leadership

• Serve as the technical authority for data platforms across assigned client engagements.
• Lead architecture and design decisions related to modern data platforms, including:
• Data warehouse and lakehouse patterns
• Data modeling strategies
• Security, access control, and compliance design
• Provide deep, hands-on architectural leadership for Snowflake-based implementations, including:
• Performance optimization and cost governance in Snowflake
• Snowflake-specific architecture, scalability, and operational best practices
• dbt-based transformation and modeling standards, including project structure, testing strategies, deployment patterns, and CI/CD integration
• Provide architectural guidance for other modern cloud data platforms as needed, such as Databricks, with the ability to evaluate tradeoffs and align solutions to client requirements.
• Provide architectural guidance for ELT ingestion frameworks using Fivetran and related tooling.
• Review and approve solution designs, data models, dbt code, and pipeline implementations.
• Anticipate technical risks and proactively drive design improvements to ensure scalability and reliability.

Delivery Ownership & Quality Assurance

• Own delivery outcomes for India-based teams, ensuring alignment with architectural standards and client expectations.
• Ensure consistent application of data management best practices across ingestion, transformation, modeling, and consumption layers.
• Define and enforce coding standards, documentation requirements, and technical operating procedures.
• Oversee testing, validation, deployment, and release management activities.
• Monitor delivery health, technical debt, and platform sustainability across engagements.

Client & Stakeholder Leadership

• Act as a senior technical leader and escalation point for client-facing issues.
• Partner with US-based stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences on architecture, risks, and delivery progress.
• Provide transparent reporting on team performance, delivery status, and technical challenges.

Practice & Organizational Contribution

• Contribute to the evolution of the Data Management practice through reusable assets, reference architectures, and delivery frameworks.
• Participate in internal architecture reviews, knowledge-sharing sessions, and capability development initiatives.
• Provide regular feedback to practice leadership on tooling, standards, and skill gaps.

Required Skills & Experience

Technical Experience

• 8–12+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or enterprise data management.
• 5+ years of deep Snowflake experience, including architecture, optimization, security, and administration.
• 3+ years of dbt experience, with demonstrated ownership of standards and large-scale implementations.
• Strong experience with ELT ingestion tools such as Fivetran.
• Experience with Databricks or similar lakehouse platforms.
• Advanced SQL expertise and strong data modeling fundamentals.
• Experience designing cloud-native data platforms on AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Working knowledge of orchestration tools (Airflow or equivalent) and Python for data engineering use cases.
• Experience implementing data governance, metadata management, and data quality frameworks.

Leadership & Management Experiences

• 3+ years of direct people management experience in a data or analytics environment.
• Proven ability to build, mentor, and retain high-performing technical teams.
• Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance delivery, quality, and people outcomes.
• Experience working in a global delivery model with US-based stakeholders.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
