Job Summary
The SME – Core Infrastructure (L3) is a senior, hands-on technical role responsible for the stability, performance, and resiliency of ATS’s core infrastructure platforms, including Active Directory / Entra (operational), Windows Server, VMware, VDI, and Backup/Disaster Recovery.
This role serves as the final escalation point (L3) for core infrastructure incidents and plays a critical role in stabilizing operations, reducing recurring issues, and supporting the organization’s transition from a reactive to a proactive operating model.
This position is an individual contributor role and does not include people management responsibilities.
Education and Certification
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Certifications (Preferred)
- Microsoft certifications related to Windows Server, Active Directory / Entra ID, or Azure (e.g., Windows Server Hybrid Administrator, Identity & Access Administrator, Azure Administrator)
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP-DCV) or equivalent enterprise virtualization experience
- Veeam Certified Engineer (VMCE) or equivalent backup and disaster recovery experience
- ITIL Foundation or experience working within ITIL/ITSM environments
Experience & Skills
- 8–12+ years of experience in enterprise IT infrastructure roles
- Expert-level experience with Active Directory administration and troubleshooting
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware virtualization platforms
- Experience supporting VDI environments
- Windows Server administration experience (2016–2022)
- Strong knowledge of DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery tools (Veeam preferred)
- Experience operating within ITIL/ITSM-based support environments
Skills
- Hybrid identity exposure (Azure AD Connect / Entra sync – operational level)
- PowerShell scripting for automation and diagnostics
- Experience supporting global, multi-region environments
- Prior experience supporting infrastructure components during M&A integrations
- Manage and support Office 365 / M365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint, security configurations, and license management.
Responsibilities
Core Infrastructure Operations
- Act as L3 escalation owner for Active Directory, Windows Server, VMware, and VDI-related incidents
- Administer, maintain, and optimize Active Directory / Entra (operational) services including DNS, DHCP, Group Policy, trusts, and authentication services
- Lead troubleshooting and performance optimization of VMware (vSphere / ESXi / vCenter) and virtual desktop platforms
- Manage and maintain Windows Server environments, ensuring platform stability and readiness for patching and upgrades
- Administer and support backup and disaster recovery platforms (e.g., Veeam), including restore testing and DR preparedness
Stabilization, Reliability & Continuous Improvement
- Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for complex or recurring infrastructure issues and implement permanent corrective actions
- Lead infrastructure stabilization initiatives to reduce technical debt and recurring incidents
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and operational runbooks
- Partner with the Infrastructure Team Lead to reduce ticket backlog, improve MTTR, and increase service reliability
- Identify opportunities for automation and operational efficiency (PowerShell or equivalent scripting)
Collaboration & Support
- Collaborate closely with:
- Security & Endpoint Engineering on patching, hardening, and vulnerability remediation
- Cloud & M365 teams for hybrid identity and infrastructure dependencies
- Enterprise Architecture for alignment with standards and modernization initiatives
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to L1/L2 engineers
- Support infrastructure-related activities for M&A integrations, upgrades, and modernization projects
Own Microsoft 365 licensing management and governance, including:
- License assignment, tracking, and optimization across the tenant
- Management of M365 SKUs (E3, E5, F-series, add-ons, Defender, Purview, etc.)
- Identification and remediation of unused, underutilized, or misassigned licenses
- Group-based and role-based license assignment models
- Must possess strong expertise in Microsoft 365 compliance technologies including Litigation Hold, eDiscovery, Purview retention, and post–tenant-migration data governance.
