About the Team:

The Search and AI Platform is Elsevier's agentic data platform powering products such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, and our next-generation LLM-powered research systems. The platform uses agentic services to interrogate our rich knowledge graphs, search and recommendation systems, and our unparalleled collection of research data to deliver insights to the scientific community so they can collaborate more effectively, work smarter, and deliver quality research more quickly.

About the Role:

We're looking for a passionate Software Engineer II to support the activities. There are many ETL pipelines, data stores, dataset generation and content retrieval capabilities that require continuous modification, execution and support. The team works closely with both product and other platform teams to meet business requirements, organization policies and evolving standards. 

Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining, designing, extending and improving robust and scalable pipelines, following clean code and best-practice software engineering principles 

  • Working with technologies including Java (Spring) microservices, Airflow, AWS, SQL, shell scripting, git, GitHub Actions and SFTP  

  • Collaborating with operations to build and maintain cloud infrastructure in AWS to host and monitor the services and automating common tasks mercilessly 

  • Regularly collaborating with business partners on priorities while still maintaining alignment with architectural and security standards and policies. 

  • Supporting the Tech Lead, senior engineers and more junior engineers, providing code reviews, beginning to contribute to the planning of work and ensuring execution of task on timelines 

Requirements:

  • A passionate engineer with 1-2 years of commercial software engineering experience delivering server-side applications 

  • Experience programming with Java 17+ or Spring

  • Experience with databases

  • An advocate of best practices for rapid development of quality software, including clean code, architectural design patterns and CI/CD 

  • Comfortable learning new technologies, languages, and tools on the job 

  • An inclusive, positive, collaborative mindset and a desire to deliver real business value to our customers 

Nice to have 

  • Experience with large-scale, content management systems and big data 

  • Experience with ETL, Oracle/MySQL DB, Python, Airflow
