The Team

The Search and AI Platform is Elsevier’s agentic data platform powering products such as Scopus, ScienceDirect, and our next-generation LLM-powered research systems. The platform uses agentic services to interrogate our knowledge graphs, search and recommendation systems, and our collection of research data to deliver insights to the scientific community so they can collaborate more effectively, work smarter, and deliver quality research more quickly.

About The Role

We are seeking an innovative, passionate Software Engineer III to join our AI Content team. You will help build and maintain scalable pipelines to ingest content into a centralized storage system, develop a scalable content enrichment and retrieval system, and create pipelines to load content search indexes. These systems are in early-stage implementation, and this team has the remit to ingest massive amounts of content to support AI-powered products across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Design, prototype, and build robust and scalable pipelines, following clean code and best-practice software engineering principles.
  • Work with technologies including Python (FastAPI), Java (Spring Boot), Spark, Airflow, Snowflake, Iceberg, Kafka, and RDBMS.
  • Build cloud infrastructure in AWS to host and monitor services, automating common tasks mercilessly.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery and high-quality solutions.
  • Conduct code reviews and maintain high standards for software quality.
  • Experience with large-scale content management systems and big data is highly valued.
Requirements
  • 3–5 years of experience in software engineering.
  • Strong commercial experience delivering server-side applications.
  • Excellent programming skills in Java and Python.
  • Advocate for best practices for rapid development of quality software, including clean code, architectural design patterns, and CI/CD.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies, languages, and tools on the job to keep pace with a rapidly evolving ecosystem.
  • Inclusive, positive, and collaborative mindset with a desire to deliver real business value.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity, refine and execute higher-level tasks, and perform detailed code reviews.
