The Interviewing Team builds and evolves the survey runtime and related capabilities that power reliable, fraud‑resilient data collection across devices and channels. The team collaborates closely with Authoring, Sampling, Data Management & Data Processing, the Member Platform and the SRE team to deliver secure, observable, and performant participant experiences.

About The RoleAs an Engineering Manager you have a deep understanding of your team's technology. You are able to represent your team's needs and interests to stakeholders and other company leaders. You make sure that the decisions your team makes are aligned with YouGov's long‑term goals and vision. You own delivery and technical solutions within the team. You are not only a technological leader but also a people leader. You help your teammates grow through delegation, feedback and regular 1:1s. You play an active role in the Engineering Management team shaping the entire YouGov Engineering Organisation.
Responsibilities- Guide modernization efforts, including large‑scale migrations from Python 2 to Python 3.
- Oversee discovery, documentation, and assessment of undocumented features to determine deprecation paths or continued support.
- Drive innovation in survey authoring tools, ensuring usability, scalability, and flexibility.
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of software engineers to deliver high‑quality, scalable, and reliable products.
- Partner with product, design and upper management to align on vision, priorities, and roadmap execution.
- Drive technical excellence, ensuring best practices in architecture, testing, CI/CD, and observability.
- Provide mentorship and career growth opportunities for engineers through regular feedback and development plans.
- Help recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performance team culture.
- Balance technical debt, delivery timelines, and innovation to ensure sustainable engineering practices.
- Proven experience as an Engineering Manager or Tech Lead in a software development environment.
- Strong technical foundation with hands‑on background in Python, React, Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience leading modernization initiatives such as language/platform migrations.
- Excellent people leadership skills with a track record of growing and mentoring engineering teams.
- Strong collaboration skills, able to partner effectively with product, design and stakeholders.
- Experience driving complex projects from planning through delivery.
- Passion for building not only great products but also great teams.
