Engineering Manager – Financial Technology Platform

Location : Madrid Office – Hybrid (4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

A leading organisation in the financial technology sector is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Engineering Manager to guide a team of skilled engineers in developing and maintaining a modern fintech platform.

In this role, you will have significant influence over the technical trajectory of your subject area, ensuring the delivery of robust solutions aligned to the needs of our users.

You will foster a collaborative, innovative, and high‑performance culture within your group, supporting ongoing improvement and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Leadership : Own one or more platform domains and set short‑ and medium‑term technical roadmaps.
  • Architecture Consistency – Collaborate with senior engineers to promote architectural consistency.
  • Ensure reliability, availability, and security of core systems.
  • Maintain proper support structures, service level agreements, on‑call rotations, and documentation.
  • Experience/knowledge with Python and back‑end engineering.
  • Delivery Management : Oversee project delivery, including sprint planning and monitoring overall project health.
  • Manage unplanned work and minimise unnecessary shifting of priorities.
  • Balance team workload with strategic roadmap objectives.
  • Strive for both speed and quality in output while driving incident ownership.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration : Serve as the main contact between engineering and product teams to ensure alignment.
  • Communicate progress and escalating issues as necessary.
  • People Management : Manage a team of engineers across various experience levels, ensuring group stability.
  • Oversee performance, team well‑being, and initiate corrective actions as needed.
  • Coach, perform evaluations, and guide career advancement.
  • Foster a culture of ownership and constructive feedback.
  • Attract, develop, and retain top engineering talent.
  • Process and Performance : Ensure timely and effective execution of organisational processes.
  • Focus on team‑level success as the primary KPI.
  • Responsible for metrics such as velocity, quality, delivery in time, morale, and staffing.
  • May oversee limited budgets related to tools and project‑specific costs.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as an Engineering Manager or similar leadership roles, with responsibility for supporting technical staff, teams of up to 10.
  • Solid grasp Eva modern software development methodologies and best practices.
  • Proficiency in agile methodologies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities.
  • Enthusiasm for technology and continuous innovation.
