Your Impact As a Specialist, Tailings & Dams- Americas you will support the safe, responsible, and sustainable management of Newmont’s tailings storage facilities (TSFs), heap leach facilities (HLFs), and water-retaining dams. Your work will directly strengthen our global standards, improve performance, and ensure responsible operations throughout the full facility life cycle. As Part of Our Team, You Will Support the development and improvement of standards, guidelines, and tools for tailings, water dams, and heap leach management. Help implement and oversee systematic third-party review processes, including Independent Technical Review Boards (ITRBs), Stewardship Programs, and Dam Safety Reviews (DSRs). Assist sites with risk assessments, risk mitigation plans, and follow-up actions for TSFs, HLFs, and water dams. Serve as a liaison with engineering firms (Engineer of Record), providing technical review for design, construction, operations, and closure activities. Support corporate planning for life-of-mine and life-of-asset tailings strategies, including evaluating innovative technologies for improved performance and closure outcomes. Contribute to training, workshops, and mentoring to strengthen global tailings and dam safety capabilities. Support research, innovation, and implementation of new tailings and dam safety technologies. Help implement the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM) across Newmont. Prerequisites for Your Success in This Role Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Geological Engineering, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. Knowledge of civil, geological, geotechnical, and hydrological engineering. Experience with planning, design, permitting, construction, operation, or closure of tailings facilities. Technical expertise in: Soil mechanics, Embankment design & construction, Site/material investigation & characterization, Water management & water balance, Tailings technologies & monitoring systems, Risk assessment Proficiency with geotechnical and hydrotechnical software (stability, seepage, settlement, deformation, water balance, etc.). Strong technical writing, communication, and presentation skills. Competent project management skills and ability to work across diverse global teams. Ability to collaborate, ask questions, identify risks, and continuously improve work methods. Your Work Environment You will work as part of Newmont’s Technical organization, reporting to the Director of Tailings & Dams- Americas. This is a collaborative regional role supporting operations, projects, technical reviews, and governance processes. Occasional travel may be required to support reviews, training, or site engagements. The preferred location for candidates is near our corporate headquarters, in Denver, Colorado; however highly qualified candidates near our regional offices, or any of our site locations, will be considered. Collaboration and interaction are expected with teams across the global, regional, and site organization as well as across other service and operational areas of Newmont across multiple time zones. The listed salary range applies to positions based in Colorado. Compensation may vary for candidates hired in other locations. We understand no candidate will meet every single desired qualification. The salary range offered for this role is USD $126,480- 166,005. The salary range is tied to the Colorado market for jobs performed in Colorado. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. This role will be eligible for participation in a discretionary annual bonus program, pursuant to which an employee may be awarded a percentage of their salary based on the company’s performance and their own individual performance.
