TYPICAL DUTIES

  • Performs speech therapy evaluations and interprets findings.
  • Plans and implements all types of therapeutic treatment for patients; establishes appropriate treatment goals; uses equipment properly.
  • Coordinates treatment programs with physicians, nurses, professional and para-professional staff.
  • Attends staff meetings and patient conferences; participates in in-service and staff development classes.
  • Maintains accurate records and written reports.
  • May mentor less experienced speech therapists and/or student interns.
  • KNOWLEDGE

    Current principles, methods, techniques, equipment and materials used in speech therapy, possible reactions of and hazards to patients during treatment, and of precautionary and remedial measure; anatomy and physiology related to treatment; psychological and physiological problems of persons with disabling conditions.

    ABILITY

    Organize and implement speech therapy treatment programs; conduct individual and group treatment programs; interpret and adapt physician’s orders and/or written reports; communicate effectively; work independently; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, families, staff and others; maintain excellent customer relations.
