Job Description

The Senior Accountant role combines accounts payable with accounting oversight and compliance for importing/exporting goods. Responsibilities include processing invoices, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors (freight, 3PL, logistics, and service providers), reconciling accounts, and supporting month-end close activities. The role also specializes in international trade compliance to prevent discrepancies, legal issues, and financial losses. Key Responsibilities: Accounts Payable: Process and code invoices, manage payments, reconcile vendor accounts, and resolve discrepancies. Collaborate with internal teams and international business units to ensure approvals, accurate updates, and timely reporting. Support cross-border operations and multi-entity transactions. Tax & Compliance: Post VAT entries, assist with customs duty audits, review import documentation, verify tariff classifications, and ensure compliance with U.S. and international regulations, including CBP and partner agencies. Month-End & Reporting: Support month-end close, prepare journal entries, financial statements, royalty/rebate/commission reports, and flag noncompliance issues to internal legal. Analyze trends and provide insights to management. General Accounting: Perform account reconciliations, assist with amortization/depreciation schedules, and prepare statements for internal and external reporting. Maintain accuracy and completeness across multiple entities. Banking & Interest: Post monthly bank activity, interest income, update amortization schedules for notes payable, and prepare statements as requested. Ensure proper allocation and tracking of intercompany payments. Customs Duty Auditing: Audit import entries and documents (commercial invoices, packing lists) for classification, valuation, and origin; perform post-entry corrections; maintain CBP-compliant records; analyze findings and propose corrective actions to improve accuracy, reduce risk, and ensure compliance. Ability to meet deadlines Minimum Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as international business or a related area, or equivalent work experience. Five to ten years' experience in accounting. Familiarity with trade management systems: Experience with systems like SAP preferred. Strong understanding of accounting principles (e.g., GAAP); accrual accounting, and matching principles
