Job Summary:

The Senior Optometrist is responsible for providing high-quality optometric care, leading clinical operations, supervising junior optometrists, and working in collaboration with ophthalmologists in diagnosis and treatment. This role includes patient consultation, pre-operative and post-operative assessments, and contribution to outreach programs and continuing education initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: Clinical Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive eye exams and visual assessments.
  • Perform refractions and prescribe spectacles and contact lenses.
  • Conduct pre-operative evaluations and post-operative care for cataract and other eye surgeries.
  • Perform specialized tests like Applanation Tonometry, Keratometry, Fundus Photography, OCT, A-scan, B-scan, and Visual Field Testing.
  • Work in collaboration with ophthalmologists in diagnostic procedures and treatment planning.
Supervisory & Training
  • Mentor and supervise junior optometrists and interns.
  • Conduct periodic training and case discussions to enhance clinical skills within the department.
  • Review clinical documentation for accuracy and compliance with protocols.
Operational & Administrative
  • Ensure adherence to clinical protocols and patient care standards.
  • Maintain accurate patient records using EMR/HMIS systems.
  • Ensure timely maintenance and calibration of ophthalmic instruments.
Outreach & Community Engagement
  • Participate in and coordinate community eye screening camps.
  • Conduct school vision screening and awareness programs.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Optometry from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Fellowship from reputed institutes
Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency in advanced optometric and ophthalmic tests and surgical work-up.
  • Strong clinical judgment and diagnostic skills.
  • Excellent communication and patient counseling abilities.
  • Team leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Familiarity with EMR and hospital management systems.
Preferred Attributes:
  • Prior experience in a tertiary eye care center.
  • Exposure to subspecialties like Pediatric Optometry, Low Vision, or Contact Lens Fitting.
  • Willingness to participate in rural/outreach eye camps.
