Staff Data Engineer  

POSITION PURPOSE:

Bayer Radiology R&D India HUB is currently seeing a Senior/Staff Data Engineer to work on its cloud based SaMD solutions which empower our thousands of medical devices. This role involves design and implements scalable, secure, and high-performance data pipelines for cloud-native solutions which supports connectivity solutions for our medical devices. The SME ensures that platform’s initiatives, programs, and solutions are aligned with the evolving needs of the increased cyber security needs and development lifecycle, enhancing the organization’s ability to bring diagnostic answers for patients.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain cloud-native data pipelines for structured and unstructured healthcare data
  • Develop APIs and data services to support analytics, AI/ML, and product features
  • Collaborate with architects, data scientists, and product teams to ensure data quality and availability
  • Implement data governance, lineage, and security controls across platforms
  • Optimize pipeline performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Participate in code reviews and enforce data engineering best practices
  • Stay current with emerging data technologies and cloud-native tools
  • Support compliance with healthcare regulations and data privacy standards
  • Contribute to agile sprints and product planning activities

  • Must:
  • Cloud Platforms: Google Cloud Platform (preferred)
  • Programming & Scripting: Python, Shell scripting
  • Data Pipelines & Orchestration: Apache Beam, Airflow
  • Messaging Systems: Kafka, Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ
  • Databases: BigQuery, SQL, NoSQL (MongoDB, Firestore)
  • Containers & Functions: Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Functions
  • Agile & Collaboration: Jira, Confluence, Scrum practices
  • Monitoring & Logging: Stackdriver, Prometheus, ELK
  • Nice to Have:
  • If not GCP then AWS or Azure cloud experience
  • PySpark
  • API Development: FastAPI, Flask, API Gateways
  • Data Governance & Compliance: HIPAA, GDPR, HL7, EMR, multi-omics data
  • Visualization Tools: Tableau, Power BI, Looker

    • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering roles
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with GCP (preferred) and either AWS or Azure
  • Proven experience in leading data engineering teams and delivering enterprise-grade solutions
  • Familiarity with healthcare or regulated environments is a plus
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities
