STEM Campus Counselor - Elementary

Position Type: Student Support Services/Counselor Date Posted: 12/16/2025 Location: Bowie Elementary Date Available: 08/10/2026 Primary Purpose: The primary purpose of the STEM elementary counselor is to work with school faculty, staff, students, parents, and the community to plan, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling program that aligns with the campus STEM mission. Counsel students to fully develop their academic, career, personal, and social abilities-with a focus on collaboration and resilience-while addressing the needs of special populations. Qualifications: Education/Certification Master's degree in counseling Valid Texas counseling certificate Special Knowledge/Skills Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior Contributes to a culture, climate, and environment that values collaboration Ability to build partnerships with local businesses and organizations to provide real-world experiences Ability to tell the AISD stories of inspiration, success, and opportunities Demonstrate a belief that all students can achieve high levels of rigor Ability to interpret data Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic educational environment Experience Two years counseling experience Major Responsibilities and Duties: Guidance Teach campus developmental guidance curriculum consistent with district's guidance program plan and tailored to campus needs. Assist teachers in the teaching of guidance-related curriculum. Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness. Counseling Counsel individual students and small groups with presenting needs and concerns. Consultation Consult parents, teachers, administrators, and other relevant people to enhance their work with students. Work with school and community personnel to bring together resources for students. Maintain a communication system that effectively collects and disseminates information to other professionals as appropriate. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other school professionals and representatives of community resources. Use an effective referral process to assist students and others to use special programs and services. Assessment Assist in planning and evaluation of campus testing program. Interpret tests and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents. Maintain the confidentiality of student assessment Program Management Plan school guidance and counseling programs to ensure that they meet identified needs, priorities, and program objectives. Implement a comprehensive and balanced program. Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the guidance program and individual activities and make changes based on findings. Educate the school staff, parents, and community about the guidance program through a public information program. Compile, maintain, and file all required physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents. Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills Attend and participate in meetings and committees as required Community Partnerships & STEM Support Adjust to meet the evolving demands of STEM education Contribute to a culture, climate, and environment that values collaboration Willing to try different approaches and model risk-taking for staff Identify and cultivate relationships with local businesses, universities, and industry experts to build a network of partners for Project-Based Learning (PBL) Coordinate with community partners to serve as mentors, guest speakers, or judges for campus events/showcases Facilitate the involvement of community organizations in campus events (e.g., Family STEM Nights) to help families connect real-world industry skills to their child's education. Serve as a bridge between the school and community resources to secure materials or expertise needed for inquiry-based learning projects. Supervisory Responsibilities: Students Direct the work of teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel and others as assigned.
