SUMMARY OF POSITION

The sterile processing educator provides staff/professional development expertise as an educator, consultant, facilitator, change agent and leader. This occurs through developing, planning, implementing and evaluating educational programs to meet the needs of the Sterile Processing (Department (SPD) and to aide in the professional development of staff. The Educator maintains open and active communication with the medical staff, patient care staff, and interdepartmental staff. The Educator ensures the competency of all SPD staff and any other unit staff member performing cleaning, assembly, High Level Disinfectant (HLD) and/or sterilization and maintains education records in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
