Job Description
 

  •  To analyse, determine and specify the structural requirements and considerations applicable to
     Mooring System Department products and proposals.
  • To design efficient structures can be realised safely and economically.
  • To produce, organise and coordinate the production of structural analyses reports and
     specifications.
  • To check finite element analyses on critical structural components and confirm that the results
     are in agreement with the design.
  • To lead and give directions to groups of engineers and technicians on specific projects.
  • To keep abreast of Certification Authorities' (ABS, DNV, LRS, BV, ...) requirements and code
    evolution that relate to Mooring systems and structural design.
  • Key Job accountabilities 

  • To ensure that all the engineers are fully in line with the Group Management System, the latest rules from the classification societies.
  • To propose methods and prepare drafts of new procedures. 
  • To keep the Dept up to date on the various tools and methodology to be used.
  • To be the structural reference for the Department.
  • To provide technical support to other company’s departments and Sales group.
  • To provide technical support to designers.
     Where requested provide formal response for troubleshooting and technical recommendations arising from clients, contractors, classification societies.
  • To follow all the relevant Departmental Working Instructions and provide help to define new ones.
  • To help the TPM define all the structural activities to be performed on his project.
  • To ensure that the project team is fully aware of the Client's specifications, contractual requirements, and applicable codes and standards relevant to structural activities.
  • To identify and follow-up structural design changes. To inform and, depending on the number of man-hours involved, help the TPM prepare a proposal for a variation order.
  • To perform the supplier's offers review, meaning identify, analyse and take action on any discrepancies with project specifications or proposition for which the structural component is not considered sound.
  • To design, and review designs of structural components of the Company's products.
  • To identify and write specifications for the structural aspects applicable to the Company's products.
  • To use the appropriate software for analyses, calculations and design aids. Keep up-to-date on new software revision and upgrading.
  • To perform calculations verifying the integrity of structural designs. 
  • To identify and specify the materials and welding standards necessary for the safe and efficient fabrication and construction of the Company's products. 
  • To analyse, determine and apply the dimensions, properties, motions, loads and characteristics pertinent to structural considerations. 
  • To follow all Working Procedures and Departmental Working Instructions relevant to the engineering of structures. 
  • To recommend and follow all quality assurance and safety factors/requirements applicable to the design of structures. 
  • To identify and recommend structural inspection requirements on projects. 
  • To monitor and review internal drawings, specifications and documentation related to structural designs and related matters. 
  • To liaise with classification societies and other regulatory bodies involved with the safety integrity and legality of the Company's structures.
  • To advise Technical Project Managers on the structural aspects of project design.
  • To prepare formal responses to comments from clients and classification societies on drawings and specifications.
  • To attend and contribute to internal Company/departmental/project meetings where structural systems and equipment are discussed. 
  • To keep abreast of relevant developments in structural engineering with respect to the offshore industry. 
  • To research and develop ideas and engineering solutions which enhance departmental and Company performance in structures. 
  • To prepare and submit technical papers for publication/presentation in trade journals and at industry conferences. 
  • To investigate and report on structural failures or underperformance on the Company's products.
     To attend training courses, seminars etc. when required.
  • Your profile 
     A recognised engineering degree with major in structural field,

  • At least 5 years’ experience within the offshore industry. 
  • Knowledge of Floating product/systems is a plus.
  • Fluent English level is required.
