Subject Matter Expert

Role
Act as a Subject Matter Expert supporting both the team and the team leader. Provide ongoing quality monitoring and coaching in order to improve the team’s performance and actively seek improvements to satisfy our customer needs.
Business Function
EQ India Operations team work closely with the EQ Group functions across UK, US and Amsterdam to provide operations support to Shareholder Solutions, Pensions Solutions, Investment Services, Employee Benefit Solutions, KYC Operations, Customer Experience Centre, Reconciliations, and Innovation. This service is delivered from our offices in India based out of Chennai and Bangalore.
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Perform advanced quality checks and compile reconciliation data to support detailed trend, exception, and variance analysis across client and non‑client money processes.Support the Reconciliation Manager by reviewing reconciliation quality outcomes, identifying recurring issues, and contributing to targeted coaching or process refinements that enhance team accuracy and efficiency.Investigate reconciliation breaks and operational losses, conducting thorough root‑cause analysis and applying corrective and preventive action (CAPA) steps to strengthen controls and reduce future exposure.Lead small‑scale continuous improvement initiatives by identifying workflow inefficiencies and recommending practical enhancements to streamline reconciliation processes.Review reconciliation‑related issues or complaints, analyse patterns, and support the implementation of actions that prevent repeat occurrences.Provide guidance and informal mentoring to junior and mid‑level team members, helping them build technical capability and confidence in reconciliation processes, systems, and internal controls.Assist the Reconciliation Manager with quality oversight, workflow coordination, and operational control tasks, stepping in to support leadership when needed.Take ownership of reconciliation risks or issues identified during daily work, ensuring timely follow‑up, documentation, and clear communication to senior colleagues.Collaborate closely with US support teams to reduce unnecessary escalations and improve alignment between onshore and offshore reconciliation activities.Ensure all reconciliation tasks comply with internal policies, quality standards, information security requirements, and the organisation’s Integrated Management System.Contribute to team deliverables by performing a wide range of reconciliation tasks and providing additional support during peak periods or complex cycles.Continue developing technical knowledge of reconciliation systems, financial operations, and evolving business requirements to remain adaptable and effectiveEnsure corrective actions from reconciliation reviews are completed promptly, accurately, and fully documented.Support the team in consistently achieving high reconciliation accuracy and quality results.Maintain strict adherence to internal procedures, policies, and operational standards.Recommend meaningful improvements to reconciliation processes, controls, and reporting based on experience and observed trends.Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment, transparency, and timely resolution of reconciliation‑related issues.Competencies and Experience
