Summary
The Systems Administrator II provides operational and maintenance support for mission-critical Navy systems under PMW 790. This position ensures high availability, security compliance, and performance across STACC environments, supporting both shore-based and deployed configurations. The administrator applies expertise in system configuration, patching, and troubleshooting to maintain reliable, secure operations in accordance with DoD and NAVWAR policies.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain operating systems (Windows, Linux) and associated applications across multiple enclaves.
- Perform user administration, access control management, and system resource allocation in accordance with cybersecurity requirements.
- Monitor system health, logs, and performance metrics; identify and resolve incidents, service degradations, and capacity issues.
- Apply patches, security updates, and baseline configurations consistent with RMF and DISA STIG standards.
- Conduct regular data backups, recovery tests, and system restores to ensure data integrity and operational continuity.
- Coordinate with network, cybersecurity, and platform engineering teams to resolve cross-domain or multi-system issues.
- Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Maintenance Requirement Cards (MRCs), and other documentation.
- Support field or shipboard installations, failovers, and system demonstrations as needed.
- Provide Tier II/III technical support and assist with training or knowledge transfer to local administrators and users.
- Administer assigned systems, ensuring patching, ACAS scans, MRC/SOP maintenance, and fleet failover support are executed in accordance with operational readiness standards.
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Windows/Linux administration and RMF knowledge.
- IAT Level II (Security + CE or equivalent).
- 5+ years of system administration experience supporting Navy or DoD operational environments.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team; ready for occasional travel or onsite support as required.
- Proven problem-solving abilities with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills: able to explain technical issues to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
