**CTG is seeking to fill a Systems Programmer IV – Mainframe Middleware opening for our client in Remote.**

**Location:** Remote
**Duration:** 12 months

**Overview:**
The Mainframe Systems Programmer IV – Middleware is responsible for installing, configuring, and supporting middleware technologies on IBM z/OS platforms. This role ensures the reliability, performance, and security of critical enterprise applications running on mainframe middleware technologies such as CICS, IMS, DB2, IBM MQ, and WebSphere. The position partners closely with application teams, infrastructure engineers, and operations to deliver stable, scalable, and high-performing mainframe services. The role also participates in technical research and development to support continuous innovation within the Middleware Mainframe infrastructure.

**Primary Responsibilities:**
_Middleware Engineering & Support_

+ Install, configure, and maintain middleware products including CICS, IMS TM/DB, IBM MQ, WebSphere Application Server, Connect:Direct, FTP/SFTP, z/OS Connect, and related tools.
+ Support application deployment, testing, and integration across middleware environments.
+ Monitor and tune middleware performance, availability, and resource utilization using tools such as OMEGAMON, SYSVIEW, CICS Performance Analyzer, c/Prof, and similar solutions.
+ Troubleshoot complex middleware issues, perform root cause analysis, and engage vendors as required for advanced triage.
+ Implement automation for middleware operations, failover, and recovery.
+ Create and maintain runbooks, procedures, support documentation, and architectural diagrams.

_Mainframe Systems Programming_

+ Support z/OS system components required for middleware, including SMP/E, JCL, REXX, PARMLIB, and PROCLIB.
+ Assist with system upgrades, maintenance, patching, and IPL planning activities.
+ Participate in capacity planning and performance tuning initiatives.
+ Maintain documentation, standards, and configuration baselines.

_Operations & Collaboration_

+ Participate in an on-call support rotation.
+ Collaborate with application teams to troubleshoot issues and optimize performance.
+ Support disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution.
+ Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced team members.
+ Maintain internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit requirements and addressing regulatory findings as applicable.
+ Understand and adhere to company risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls; identify and escalate risk-related issues to management.
+ Work within ServiceNow and Jira ticketing systems and Agile frameworks to track and prioritize workload.
+ Complete other related duties as assigned.

**Scope of Responsibilities:**
This role operates within a large, complex enterprise mainframe environment, providing senior-level technical expertise for middleware platforms, ensuring system stability, compliance, and performance while supporting mission-critical business applications.

**Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:**
No direct supervisory responsibilities. Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to junior team members.

**Education and Experience Required:**

+ Combined minimum of seven (7) years of higher education and/or related work experience.
+ Strong experience with IBM z/OS and mainframe systems programming fundamentals.
+ Hands-on expertise with one or more middleware platforms such as CICS, IBM MQ, IMS, or WebSphere Application Server.
+ Proficiency with SMP/E, JCL, REXX, CLIST, and automation tools.
+ Demonstrated ability to read, analyze, and apply complex technical information.
+ Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
+ Experience working in large, complex enterprise environments.

**Education and Experience Preferred:**

+ Experience with Sysplex, z/OSMF, or high-availability architectures.
+ Knowledge of mainframe networking technologies including TCP/IP, VTAM, Communications Server, and certificate management.
+ Experience with ServiceNow, Jira, and Agile delivery frameworks.
+ Familiarity with DevOps concepts or automation frameworks for z/OS.
+ Exposure to cloud integration or hybrid mainframe environments.
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

The expected base salary for this position ranges from $34.61 to $57.68 per hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, market factors, and where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. In addition to salary, a competitive benefits package is also offered.
