Job Description

Mission
The Technical Service Representative (TSR) provides on-site technical support to ensure that PPG's protective and marine coatings (Sigma Coatings, Amercoat, Freitag) are applied according to specifications, standards, and recommended procedures. This role safeguards PPG's interests by maintaining accurate project documentation, identifying deviations, and supporting customers, contractors, and applicators throughout the application process. The TSR contributes to customer satisfaction, claim prevention, and the overall technical excellence of the PMC business.

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with Field Technical Service guidelines and PPG PMC procedures at all times.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed project records and complete standard reporting forms in a timely manner.
  • Attend assigned projects and perform inspections and technical support professionally and consistently.
  • Identify deviations from specifications and immediately report them to the Field Technical Service Manager.
  • Provide technical assistance to yards, contractors, subcontractors, and end users regarding product use and application.
  • Stay updated on Sigma Coatings, Amercoat, and Freitag products, systems, and procedures.
  • Share relevant product or competitor information with the Field Technical Service Manager.
  • Follow all safety rules, including proper use of MSDS and local safety regulations.
  • Manage complaints carefully, avoiding commitments beyond authority and protecting PPG from liability.
  • Escalate any potential claims or complaints to the Field Technical Service Manager without delay.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, Polytechnic School background, or marine/ship officer qualification (or similar).
  • Experience in Marine, Yard, Contractor, or Coatings environments; FROSIO III or NACE 2 certification preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of coating application processes and inspection standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and digital communication tools.
  • Fluency in business English and Spanish.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills while safeguarding company interests.
  • Customer-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
  • Initiative, creativity, and ability to work independently on site.
  • Professional appearance and behavior, representing PPG with integrity.
  • Availability to travel frequently and to work on weekends when required.

Location: Bilbao, Spain (or surrounding area)
Note: This role is based in Bilbao, so candidates should be able to reside within commuting distance to the work center.
