About the Role
As a Metallurgical Technician , you will support the Metallurgy and Processing Department through the effective operation of the Telfer metallurgical laboratory. This role plays a key part in delivering routine metallurgical test work and diagnostics that underpin safe, compliant and efficient plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a high level of housekeeping. Maintain the metallurgical laboratory in a clean, organised and safe state
- Maintain Met Lab stock levels – consumables & PPE
- Upkeep of new/existing standard operating procedures and safety data sheets in the metallurgical laboratory
- Compliance to the sampling and metallurgical test procedures that the metallurgical lab is using to ensure that all procedures are performed consistently and accurately
- Routine reporting and data entry
- Maintaining of updated log sheets and sample records
- Supporting the Safety Management System, ensuring a safety-first work culture; applying site safety standards, procedures and policies
- Participating in site safety initiatives
- Taking a proactive risk management approach to departmental tasks, i.e., recognise, analyse, respond to ensure risks are at an acceptable level; ensuring that prior to work commencing an effective risk assessment and controls are in place and understood Ensuring attendance of scheduled safety/toolbox meeting
What you will bring
- Metallurgical Laboratory, Laboratory or Plant experience required, preferably in a mining environment
- Basic experience in use of Excel, Word, SAP
- Experience in metallurgical test work e.g. batch flotation testing, comminution testing, leach (gold cyanidation) testing and general sample preparation
- Have appropriate licences, qualifications and permits and/or willing to obtain
- Detail and results oriented with the ability to multitask and adhere to deadlines
- Good interpersonal skills and excellent safety record
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a gold-copper mine located in the Paterson Province of the East Pilbara region of Western Australia. It includes both open-pit and underground mining operations, as well as the operation of Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since beginning gold production in 1975, Telfer has produced more than 15Moz of gold to date.
Our Telfer operations offer a fly-in fly-out work arrangement, providing our workforce with a healthy work-life balance. Onsite, we offer a broad range of recreational activities, including a recently refurbished gym, swimming pool, driving range, movie room, and both dry and wet mess facilities.
In addition to Telfer, Greatland owns 100% of the Havieron gold-copper, a world class development project with a multi-decade mine life, located 45km east of Telfer that will utilise the existing Telfer infrastructure to process Havieron ore, together with a significant exploration portfolio in the region surrounding Telfer.
