Job Summary:
The Metal Scrap Trader is responsible for sourcing, trading, and selling ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap across global markets. The role involves market analysis, supplier and buyer management, contract negotiation, logistics coordination, and risk management to ensure profitable and compliant international trade.
Key Responsibilities
1) Trading & Business Development
- Source and trade, ferrous and non-ferrous metal scrap (HMS, shredded scrap, aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel, etc.) in international markets.
- Identify and develop new suppliers and buyers across regions (US, Europe, Middle East, Asia, Africa).
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
- Execute spot and term contracts in line with market trends.
2) Market Analysis & Risk Management
- Track global scrap metal prices, demand-supply dynamics, and market movements.
- Monitor freight rates, currency fluctuations, and regulatory changes.
- Manage price, credit, and counterparty risks.
- Prepare market intelligence reports for management.
3) Logistics & Documentation
- Coordinate international logistics including shipping, inspection, and warehousing.
- Ensure accurate trade documentation (contracts, invoices, BL, COO, inspection certificates).
- Work closely with shipping lines, freight forwarders, surveyors, and customs agents.
4) Compliance & Quality Control
- Ensure compliance with international trade regulations, environmental norms, and country-specific import/export laws.
- Arrange third-party inspections and quality checks.
- Resolve quality, quantity, or delivery disputes with counterparties.
5) Relationship Management
- Maintain strong relationships with global suppliers, buyers, brokers, and agents.
- Represent the company at international trade fairs, supplier visits, and negotiations.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or related field.
- 3 – 10 years of experience in international metal scrap trading.
- Strong knowledge of ferrous and/or non-ferrous scrap grades and specifications.
- Proven track record of profitable trading and deal execution.
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and commercial acumen.
- Deep understanding of global scrap markets and pricing mechanisms.
- Knowledge of INCOTERMS, LCs, and international payment instruments.
- Ability to manage end-to-end trade execution.
- Excellent communication skills and cultural awareness.
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing global supplier and buyer network.
- Experience trading bulk shipments and containerized cargo.
- Familiarity with environmental and recycling regulations.
- Willingness to travel internationally.
