Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill five (5) part-time (not to exceed 20 hours per week) Student Support Services (Peer Mentor) positions with the TRIO department at Oregon State University (OSU).
TRIO SSS Peer Mentors will support TRIO’s effort to facilitate a successful college transitional experience for the incoming SSS Summer Bridge cohort. Peer Mentors will be working with new SSS participants during the Summer Bridge Program, as well as the remainder of the academic year.
SSS Peer Mentors will help create a welcoming environment and familiarize SSS participants with college life. They will help the incoming SSS cohort adapt socially and academically, as well as monitor any adjustment issues.Peer Mentors will help the new SSS participants navigate college life at Oregon State University by providing the students information about available resources on campus, orienting them to the expectations of an institution of higher education, and encouraging participation in all SSS activities and events. It is required that the SSS Peer Mentors participate in all SSS planned peer mentoring activities.Anticipated Hourly Rate: $16.15 Transferable Skill Development OSU is committed to ensuring students are prepared for success after graduation through intentional skill development as student employees. Communication, Critical Thinking, Leadership, and Professionalism. Position Duties
  • Coordinate volunteer program and work directly with selected non-profit organizations

  • Attend Summer START sessions to represent TRIO and recruit program participants

  • Participate as Peer Mentors in the SSS Summer Bridge Program Participate in planning and conducting student workshops and activities

  • Meet with your assigned SSS students weekly during fall, winter and spring terms

  • Assist in coordinating and participate in all SSS on-and-off campus events

  • Off campus events require Mentors to drive

  • Attend and participate in all SSS Peer Mentoring meetings

  • Assist in conducting program evaluations

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study

  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment

  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

  • *International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications
  • Must have participated in the TRIO SSS program.

  • Must hold a second-year student status or above by the end of Spring 2026

  • Must have valid Driver’s license

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.

  • This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OSU Standard 125-155-0200) as per OSU Standard 576-056-0000 et seq. Preferred (Special) Qualifications
