Conventional Mortgage UnderwriterProcess LeadWork hours are in EST/EDTLocation for this role: RemoteThe Underwriter will review all loan documents and data in a loan file with the goal of rendering an Underwriting decision based on the loan characteristics, including but not limited to the Borrower’s ability to repay (income, employment, and assets), Borrower’s credit history, and the collateral (property). UWs are granted Lending Authority based on their experience and their performance on initial test cases. Once the Lending Authority is received, they underwrite loans in accordance with regulatory requirements, Investor guidelines, and Truist overlays. Underwriter responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:Responsibilities will include:The ideal candidate will have over three to four years of experience independently underwriting residential mortgage loans, expert analytical skills, with DU & LP experienceUnderwrites mortgage loan applications and evaluates loans in order to maximize organizational profit and minimize risk or loss. Responsible for ensuring all documentation meets program and AUS requirementsReviews and validates income and asset documentationReviews AUS findingsIssues with underwriting decision and notifications of clear to closeReviews all credit documentationReviews and approves all TrustsEnsure adherence to any client overlaysMortgage Insurance certsIssues, Denials, and 2nd-tier manager reviewsSuspend the file if credit decisions are unable to be renderedTypically reports to a supervisor or manager.QualificationsBasicBachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent required from an accredited institution. Will also consider three years of progressive experience in the specialty in lieu of every year of education.At least 4 years of relevant work experiencePreferredFamiliar with standard mortgage concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Should have working knowledge of any Mortgage loan origination application. Preferably, the BKFS application – Empower, MSPRelies on limited experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goalsPerforms a variety of tasks.Excellent mathematical and statistical aptitude.A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expectedNote: Applicants for employment in the U.S. must possess work authorization, which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa (H1B or otherwise).
