Job Description
Interested candidates, kindly mail to [email protected]
Job Purpose:
To lead and govern geomechanics for underground coal mining through high-temperature, high-pressure subsurface processes, ensuring geomechanical integrity, operational safety, regulatory compliance, and long-term asset performance through advanced modelling, monitoring, and risk identification and management.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead and mentor a multi-disciplinary geomechanics team across the full project lifecycle, including data generation, modelling, development, operations management, and closure.
• Define and drive long-term geomechanics strategy, standards, workflows, budgets, and delivery excellence.
• Act as the technical authority for rock mechanics, THMC (thermal, hydraulic, mechanical, and chemical) behaviour, cavity growth and collapse, fracture propagation, subsidence prediction and control, caprock integrity, and well integrity.
• Oversee advanced numerical and THMC modelling, laboratory testing programs, parameter validation, and QA/QC in line with global benchmarks.
• Approve safe operating envelopes, gasifier designs, panel layouts, and mitigation plans to de-risk subsurface operations.
• Lead field monitoring strategies, including micro-seismic, InSAR, downhole, fiber-optic, or other sensing mechanisms, and establish early-warning protocols.
• Provide critical decisions and authoritative guidance during key operational phases, and ensure integration of geomechanical inputs with geology, hydrogeology, mining, reservoir, drilling, and environmental disciplines.
• Chair geomechanics reviews, HAZIDs, HAZOPs, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Represent the geomechanics function with regulators, partners, and senior leadership, while mentoring talent and fostering an innovation-driven culture.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Master’s or PhD in Geomechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Rock Mechanics, or a related field.
• 20–25 years of experience in geomechanics, with strong exposure to underground operations in similar projects (underground coal mining experience will be an advantage), in-situ combustion, geothermal, or high-temperature subsurface operations.
• Advanced expertise in rock mechanics, THMC modelling using state-of-the-art software, cavity behaviour, subsidence prediction, mitigation, and integrity assurance.
• Proficiency in industry-standard numerical modelling and monitoring techniques.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, regulatory interface, strategic decision-making capability, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to balance technical depth and executive oversight.
