The Dr. Charles P. Darby Jr. Department of Pediatrics, Division of Cardiology at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Charleston is seeking a full-time pediatric cardiologist to serve as Medical Director of the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory, with expertise in advanced noninvasive cardiac imaging, including cardiac MRI. This leadership role offers the opportunity to advance cardiac imaging initiatives, provide mentorship and career development for fellows and faculty, and support the education and training of pediatric cardiology fellows.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will be board certified or board eligible in pediatric cardiology, possess additional training in advanced non-invasive cardiac imaging, and have a minimum of five years of post-training experience. Primary clinical responsibilities include serving as a noninvasive imaging cardiologist with a focus on transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and cardiac MRI, with opportunities to perform and interpret transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), fetal echocardiography, and cardiac CT based on experience and interest.

As Medical Director, the successful candidate will provide comprehensive oversight and strategic leadership for the Pediatric Echocardiography Laboratory, including quality assurance, protocol development, program growth, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Additional clinical and academic opportunities are available and may be tailored to the candidate’s individual interests. The role also includes active participation in the education of pediatric cardiology fellows, residents, and medical students, as well as encouragement and support to pursue individual scholarly and academic interests.

MUSC is consistently ranked among the top Children’s Hospitals nationally by U.S. News & World Report, and the Heart Center is currently ranked fourth nationally. The cardiac program has a long history of stability and is the only surgical and interventional center in South Carolina. The center provides comprehensive care for complex medical and surgical patients from newborns to adults in a dedicated cardiac intensive care unit. Annually, more than 14,000 echocardiograms, 600 cardiac catheterizations, and 450 cardiac operations are performed. MUSC is one of the few programs in the country to receive a three-star ranking from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the highest category for quality and outcomes.
