Summary

The Senior Design Engineer plays a pivotal role in driving innovation and operational excellence within the manufacturing sector. This position is responsible for leading the end-to-end design lifecycle of mechanical components and systems, ensuring they meet stringent quality, safety, and performance standards. The ideal candidate will leverage advanced 2D/3D design tools to develop robust, scalable, and manufacturable solutions while collaborating cross-functionally with production, quality, and R&D teams. With a strong foundation in engineering principles and industry standards such as BIS and ISO, the Senior Design Engineer ensures designs are optimized for cost, durability, and compliance. This role is critical in accelerating product development cycles, improving design reliability, and supporting continuous improvement through prototyping, testing, and root cause analysis. The successful candidate will contribute directly to enhancing product quality, reducing time-to-market, and maintaining technical leadership in a dynamic manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation and validation of detailed 2D and 3D mechanical designs using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Develop accurate geometric dimensioning and tolerating (GD&T) for precision manufacturing.
  • Prepare comprehensive assembly drawings, general arrangement (GA) drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Generate and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) with accuracy and consistency across product variants.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate product requirements into functional designs.
  • Conduct prototyping, testing, and evaluation of new designs to validate performance and reliability.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on design-related failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, including BIS and ISO regulations.
  • Support manufacturing and quality teams during production ramp-up and troubleshooting.
  • Maintain design databases, version control, and documentation for audit and traceability purposes.
  • Participate in design reviews, DFMA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly), and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical design within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 2D/3D modeling, simulation, and drawing generation.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating GA drawings, assembly drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Strong understanding of BOM preparation, revision control, and data management.
  • Experience with prototyping processes and physical testing of mechanical components.
  • Solid knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Whys, Fish-bone, FMEA).
  • In-depth familiarity with BIS and ISO standards relevant to mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications and translate them into practical designs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a detail-oriented mindset.
  • Experience working in agile or lean manufacturing environments is a plus.
