Purpose:

Athene signed the first reinsurance agreement in Japan in 2020. Over the past 5 years Athene has transacted 8 reinsurance deals across 7 cedents with 6 Flow and 2 Block transactions, totaling US$19 billion, with Japanese life insurers as cedants. Athene believes Japan to be a significantly strategic market and activated an insurance broker affiliate ARJS (Athene Re Japan Solutions) to let it support those Japanese cedants. ARJS is looking for an exceptional and driven individual to join our team based in Japan. This role is key in supporting our business growth. Reporting to SVP Corporate Development, responsibilities of the role include:

Accountabilities:

  • Help cedents select the most suitable reinsurance carrier to partner with in a reinsurance transaction
  • Provide advice to cedents on reinsurance proposals, which can include product innovation in (re)insurance.
  • Facilitate negotiation of reinsurance terms between cedents and reinsurance carriers
  • Support in reinsurance transaction execution and on-going administration including any necessary translation
  • Proactively broaden client coverage and maintain good business relationships with business counterparties in Japan
  • Collect market intelligence and participate in timely and strategic organizational discussions.
  • Any other corporate development activities assigned by the company


    • Qualifications and Experience:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in reinsurance, institutional securities sales and trading, or any financial services relating to the Japanese Life Insurance industry or to the Japanese Insurance Brokerage business
  • Solid technical/regulatory expertise in reinsurance transactions with Life Insurance Companies as cedants. Qualification as actuary is a plus if obtained
  • JIBA qualified broker for reinsurance, obtained before or after commencement
  • Connected with the ecosystem formed among investment banks, cedants and reinsurers for reinsurance transactions ceded from Japan
  • Native Japanese and fluent business English
  • Able to work under stress and short time frame
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts and structures
  • Enjoy working with people, both internally and externally
