Overview
Operate a truck and drive to projects throughout Houston for the repair, service, and maintenance of heavy construction equipment in the field environment. This will include basic repair knowledge and troubleshooting of electrical, hydraulic, powertrain, and engine components.
Regular Job Duties
Operate a truck and drive to projects to perform maintenance and repair work on heavy equipment including dozers, excavators, track hoes, and related heavy highway construction equipmentPerform a variety of skilled duties which may involve inspection, diagnosis, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair on general heavy construction equipment and heavy trucksWeld equipment for repairsOperate crane for maintenance and repair workRead, understand, and fill out service-related documents and paperwork in a timely mannerConduct preventative maintenance inspections to ensure maintenance activities on performed in a timely mannerClean work vehicle and work area as necessary to maintain a safe work environmentUse familiar knowledge of the construction industry including experience operating and repairing heavy equipmentRead and interpret specifications and manualsDiagnose and repair a wide variety of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipmentSafely use hand and power tools, equipment, and diagnostic devicesCommunicate effectively with vendors, supervisors and equipment operatorsExhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safetyOther unlisted duties will be assignedJob Requirements
Five (5) or more years of experience as a heavy equipment/diesel mechanic, preferably in the fieldLift, push, or pull and move up to seventy (70) pounds. Climb, kneel, twist, and bend in a various environmentsMust have own hand toolsBe able to work with high level of physical activity performing strenuous activities of a primarily hands-on natureHave manual dexterity sufficient to use tools and work with the fingersBe able to communicate in English via verbal and written communicationsAbility to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry and utilize Construction Math concepts including calculating rate, ratio, and percentValid driver license for occasional, required travelAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsAbility to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variablesAbility to physically maneuver by foot minor obstacles at construction projectsWork outdoors with exposure to changing weather conditions such as rain, sun, snow, and windThe Statements herein are intended to describe the general nature and levels of work performed by employees, but are not a complete list of responsibilities, duties and skills required of personnel so classified.
