Role Summary

As the Workshop Manager, you will oversee all daily operations, staff management, and strategic planning within the workshop. This role is entirely off-the-tools, focusing on people leadership, workflow management, customer satisfaction, and financial performance. A background in mechanics is desirable for technical understanding, but the core function is operational and administrative management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor technicians and support staff.
  • Coordinate rosters, manage performance, and set clear productivity targets.
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise repair and maintenance schedules for trucks and tankers, ensuring timely workflow.
  • Enforce compliance with industry standards, health, and safety regulations.
  • Oversee resource allocation (equipment, parts, and tools) to maximize efficiency.

Customer & Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintain strong customer relationships by ensuring excellent service and communication.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and external vendors on parts procurement and service contracts.
  • Handle client escalations and feedback to improve workshop processes.
  • Work with management on budgeting and forecasting.
  • Monitor costs and seek areas for operational cost‑saving measures.
  • Track KPIs, generate performance reports, and present updates to senior management.

Quality Control

  • Implement quality assurance measures and best practices.
  • Ensure all repairs and services meet or exceed industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety and quality audits.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Mechanical Background : Trade qualification or hands‑on experience as a mechanic (truck or heavy vehicle experience strongly preferred).
  • Leadership Experience : Prior supervisory or management experience in an automotive, trucking, or heavy equipment workshop.
  • Operational Management : Proven track record in managing budgets, rosters, and workshop efficiencies.
  • Compliance & Safety : Strong understanding of OH&S regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Communication Skills : Excellent verbal and written communication for staff management and customer interaction.
  • Computer Literacy : Comfortable using workshop management systems, spreadsheets, and reporting tools.
